The Mighty 12 - Support for a Year

In November, 2015, 12 young girls arrived on the doorsteps of the Rainbow of Magnolia - Fountains of Life Home for Children in southern Kenya.  The girls, ranging in age from 11 to 13, who came from many different Maasi villages, all ran away for the same reason. They ran just before the ceremony that, in the Maasi culture, would prepare them for marriage and motherhood – female circumcision.  Once circumcised, their fathers can arrange their marriage and sell them off for cattle and cash, instead of having to pay for their education. While illegal, the ritual is still practiced and valued in almost 30 countries. The girls who had walked for miles in the wilderness, mostly in dark at night to avoid being caught, arrived in tattered clothes, scared, tired and hungry.

Our Home was not prepared for them, but they came seeking safety, shelter, and a better life, and every day we continue our mission to provide these things for them.  Because we are unable to house them, we’ve found foster homes where they can live so they can attend school. Still, most of the girls are sleeping on floors and surviving on one meal a day.

Money is scare, so we focus on paying for their school fees, their school supplies, clothes and food. We dream of giving these girls, and all girls who come to us, more, a home where they feel safe, have support and can grow and thrive.  This is why we need your help.
