Mission Statement:

The Mastectomy Boutique mission is to create awareness of breast cancer, promote breast health through health education, foster early detection to increase survival rates and bridge the gap to living life again for ALL post mastectomy clients despite race, age, gender, religion, and uninsured or underinsured. For we walk by FAITH, not by sight!

“Fight Together” with The Mastectomy Boutique in the mission to provide care and support to breast cancer survivors. As the owner and founder of The Mastectomy Boutique, I am humbled through the quality of humility for humanity. The Mastectomy Boutique mission for cause is personal and dear to my heart. Over the course of two years, four of my relatives passed away from cancer - breast, colon, pancreatic, and skin cancer – respectfully. Across the nation, we can clearly see the faces and stages of cancer, namely breast cancer with mastectomy surgery as first line defense against breast cancer.

The Mastectomy Boutique opened its doors on October 28, 2017, several months after my cousin passed away from breast cancer. At The Mastectomy Boutique we meet the needs of breast cancer survivors by providing post mastectomy undergarments (bras, compression garments, and camisoles), sports, swimwear, and lingerie for women of all ages and prosthetic breast custom fitted to meet the needs of our clients. We offer wigs and head ware for those experiencing chemotherapy induced alopecia. The Mastectomy Boutique provides spiritual consultation, prayer, and support through charitable efforts. Also, through charitable efforts, we support and promote breast cancer awareness and breast health through health education and community involvement.

The boutique is a family-run operation and together we want to provide additional support to The Mastectomy Boutique patrons and the community including workshops on breast health and nutrition to address the high incidence of cancer among African Americans as means to tackle health care disparities.

As stated in a NOLA.com article on The Mastectomy Boutique by Maria Clark, “Between 2011 to 2015 the incidence of breast cancer among this demographic was 130 out of 100,000 people in Orleans Parish, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There have been an estimated 3,560 new cases of female breast cancer reported in Louisiana this year. It's the second-most-prevalent form of cancer in the state after lung and bronchus cancer, according to statistics collected by the American Cancer Society.”

Since the humble beginning, the mission of The Mastectomy Boutique has been supported financially through my personal funds. Over the past year, The Mastectomy Boutique has given $22,000 to the community and hope to double that amount in 2019. As we make great strides in the development of our mission and the sustainability of The Mastectomy Boutique, we have identified that we need your help to continue to provide the care, support, impact and education to our community. Our efforts to help restore lives and save lives can’t continue its effect unless we have the support of everyone in our community. We need your help, support, and donation to further our mission. Your donations will help us continue our mission through charitable efforts and keep the doors of The Mastectomy Boutique open and available in this community where we have served 85 post mastectomy clients and counting with 95% of them as repeat clients while the other 5% are bridge clients to reconstructive surgery. Through our community involvement, we have impacted the lives of thousands creating breast cancer awareness and promoting breast health. With your donation, it will allow us to impact thousands more and provide more charitable services such as recovery outreach, health and nutritional workshops.

While Medicare/Medicaid covers the prosthetics for many clients, most wigs and head ware is not covered. Some clients don’t have coverage and aren’t able to afford basic garments, undergarments and prosthetics that allow them to feel beautiful, and impact the quality of their life and restore confidence. The recovery period after mastectomy is challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally. The environment of the boutique and the care of the staff normalizes the post-mastectomy experience, allowing them specialized help by walk-in or by appointment to respect their privacy and offer them dignity in the traumatic experience of what some feel is a loss of identity. The Mastectomy Boutique provides access where options are limited in size, color and availability.

The Mastectomy Boutique collaborate with local oncologist, oncology hospital care units, nurse and patient care navigators, organizations, and businesses to cater to the needs of their patients and clients surviving cancer. We embrace the opportunity to collaborate with University Medical Center, LSU Medical Center, Tulane Medical Center, East and West Jefferson Medical Center, Ochsner, Walgreens Pharmacy, American Cancer Society (Making Strides Against Breast Cancer), Susan G Komen, iHeart Radio’s (Sista Strut and Bra Country), Hannah’s Klozet, and Xavier University of Louisiana.

The Mastectomy Boutique is currently an active participant as a venture in Propeller’s Accelerator Program to strengthen and grow our mission plan to address healthcare disparities namely high incidence of cancer in our community.

If you know me personally, then you know that I am a innate humanitarian.  I believe that God bless those to be a blessing to others.  I live my life giving and helping others.   Being on the receiving end of the fundraising quest is a change of pace for me.  But, I accept and embrace the change to reach out for help and support for a noble cause.  I have a passion and the vision to make a difference for breast cancer survivors and ALL cancers. What comes from the heart always touches the heart.  If my words have found their way to your heart, it’s because these words come from my heart.  From one heart to another we need your support.

Please make a donation any amount that your heart desire to give.  Your donation will support a noble cause for our community.  Humbled by the cause and Grateful for your consideration.

Sincerely,
The Mastectomy Boutique Thank You for your donation.
