'The Long Way Home': Phase 1 Fund

Donation protected
I am a film student and have for a long time wanted to make a film based around the Pals regiments in World War 1 and the final days of the conflict, an often forgotten chapter of 20th Century history.

With the 100 year anniversary of the Armistice fast approaching I felt that it was important to get this film made quickly.

All funds raised will go into the budget for the film. We have already raised over £10,000 but as I am sure you will realise, this is very little to make a movie with.

The big bills have been paid, the sound stage, the insurance and accommodation, but there remains camera and sound equipment memory cards, hard drives to load the footage onto (3 copies of everything for safety), props, costume, pyrotechnics, smoke liquids for the smoke machines and much more.

Every single penny pledged so far and in future will be used on the film and we are eternally grateful to all those who have already contributed. The costs are hellishly large and every pledge will help to make this film a reality.

The whole cast and crew have pledged their time to this project for free, most giving up holidays and time off work for the film. We have people we barely know paying to stay near the set to help out and last week a stranger just handed over £100 to help. The film has caught the imaginations of so many people and we are tantalisingly close to our target to get this made.

Our first phase of filming will begin in August, thus we really need to reach our target quickly so that we can do a great job in making the movie. It would be tragic to find ourselves 3/4 of the way through with a set and actors but no way to afford the extra bits that make a movie into a magical, believable experience. Attenton to detail is vital in a period film and a sudden change in quality because we have run out of money half way through cannot be fixed afterwards.

Director Jake on set last year.

This began as a fun idea 4 years ago, but has grown to become a passion-fueled undertaking for lots of people. We have 15 people staying in Hampshire to film for 2 weeks and another 10 or so coming in for a day or more all to ensure that this important story is told.

A few moments to stop on set in 2016

We plan to launch the film for Armitice Day 2018 (Nov 11th) to match exactly with a scene in the film.

Your assistance would mean the world to us! All of our own spare money has been put into the film, the producers have scrapped a planned holiday for their 25th wedding anniversary and put the money into the project. Making this is an overwhelming passion for us and we are as grateful for £10 as for £100 or £1000.
