Help us bring Mia's sister home

Donation protected
We are the Abbouds.  Tony and I have been married for 9 years and have known each other since we were 12.  Our daughter Mia is 4.

2 years ago we decided to further grow our family and provide a sibling for Mia; however, a second pregnancy was not for me.  Although we have the most beautiful and spirited daughter, I was not ready to endure another 40 weeks.  I had terrible morning sickness that lasted the entire pregnancy, I was on a modified and then full bed rest and in the last few minutes of childbirth I had an emergency c-section.  The healing process was less than picture perfect, with an infection, a tongue-tied baby who couldn't latch and post-partum depression.  Needless to say, growing our family was and is important but not at the expense of my physical or mental health.

At that point, we turned to adoption.  I have seen adoption work in my own family, it is such a positive and powerful experience.  Both Tony and I knew that we were strong enough to endure this process and so we began the journey.

We have chosen to adopt from South Africa.  We are hoping to bring home this year a sister for Mia, and we are anxiously awaiting our referral and our match.

Adoption, whether domestic or international is expensive. There is a mountain of paperwork that needs to be reviewed and approved before you move forward and all of this costs money.  We have been able to pay for all of the adoption expenses to date through careful savings.  Tony works full-time and consults for a different company during the evenings to help pay for the costs.  We have also sold our current home and are moving to something smaller and more affordable in order to further save.  We will be taking the difference in the mortgage and setting it aside every month (along with our other savings) in order to cover just the paperwork and legal expenses.

Here's where you fit in.  We would be grateful for any help received.  We are hoping to fund our trip to South Africa.  We will need to live in Durban for 4 to 5 weeks.  During this time we will be with our daughters and making the transistion from a family of 3 to a family of 4.  We have estimated that this portion of our journey (without the paperwork and the legal fees) will cost roughly $10,000.  We have at least one flight covered through air miles, but we will need two more round trip flights ($2000 each) and a one-way home for our daughter ($1000).  We also need somewhere to live while we are away.  We have budgeted between $100 and $150 a day for living expenses, as we are hoping to rent an entire house to also accommodate my parents.

Any donation will be appreciated.  No donation is too small and will help us bring Mia's little sister home.

Thank you
