This Go Fund Me is being created by the Oplinger family for Tyler Oplinger.
Everybody who knows Tyler knows he is a fun loving and charismatic twenty-three year old that never fails to be a complete and utter smart ass. He is as genuine as they come, and has the most infectious goofy laugh you will probably ever hear. He’s the kind of friend, brother, and son that somebody could only hope to be lucky enough to have.
On Saturday October 7th, Tyler suffered an accident at work in which he fell forty feet from a tree. On impact he broke his wrist, a few of his true ribs, and his back. He was taken to Akron City Hospital and has been continuing treatment in the ICU. He underwent surgery to fuse his T4 and T5 vertebrae back together, as well as a surgery to repair his wrist. Miraculously, his brain experienced no trauma, and all of his brain scans have been clear since he arrived. His arms are virtually unaffected, and he continues to show great mobility in both. However, as it stands, he is suffering from a incomplete thoracic spinal cord injury that has resulted in the paralysis of both of his legs.
Everybody knows that hospital stays are expensive, and it doesn’t help that Tyler is uninsured. We have started the process to enroll him in social security and medicaid, but have no idea when there will be a turnaround. The financial aspect of this accident should be the least of his concerns, but in proper Tyler fashion he’s already worried and asking about how his financial responsibilities will be tended to. By contributing to this fund, you guys would be helping to alleviate some of the financial stresses, which will allow Tyler to focus on healing both physically and emotionally.
As such, any and all funds raised would go directly toward Tyler’s treatment, rehabilitation, and therapy costs. Spinal cord injuries are life long, and his treatments will be as well. The funds will also be used to adapt the house for Tyler’s needs which include making it wheelchair accessible. Anything that anybody can donate would be greatly appreciated.
We want to be able to provide Tyler with the best care out there and as sad as it is, that care has an associated cost. By donating to this fund, you would be helping us in our effort to get Tyler to the best doctors, the best treatment facilities, and the best therapies.
We are hopeful and have faith that Tyler’s recovery will be a success story, a so called “walking miracle”, but we need your help getting there.
