THE UNINSURED: Saturday February 9, 3pm, unusually snowy weather in the Puget Sound area this close to Spring. Amanda and her girlfriends boarded the Bainbridge Ferry for a girls night out in Seattle. The plan, established months ago, was to go to a concert and spend the night in the city at a hotel. Due to weather the concert had been cancelled but the hotel had already been paid for. The plan changed. Instead they would eat a nice meal and go dancing in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle.
Sunday February 10, 1:30 am, Amanda slipped and fell at the dance club. An ambulance rushed her to nearby Swedish Hospital for treatment. Amanda had suffered a severe Tibial Plateau Fracture that requires corrective surgery –

Wednesday February 13th, noonish. While explaining the success of the surgery and ongoing treatment, The surgeon asked about our insurance situation. Amanda and I have no Health Insurance. The cost of the surgery? $150k - $250k. 
The irony is not lost on us. As a health and Medicare insurance broker I regularly assist people in making decisions and enrolling in insurance plans. Due to a modest increase in our household income, we lost our coverage on January 31st and new coverage is set to start March 1st. Perfect timing. Amanda Teaches yoga and aerial yoga in Kingston WA. This is good and bad. The good news is she is super fit and healthy which should help with recovery. The bad, She will be unable to work for some time. Both of our small businesses preformed well in 2018 and we had set a goal to save and purchase our first home and own our offices by 2020. Our goal in asking for help? We need to lessen the blow of this financial hit. We need get back on track to provide a home for our family and a place for us to work - We are grateful to have the support of our family, friends, and community – Thank you! – Amanda, Kyle, Max, and Kiki
