The Tower: a deep playa outpost - Burning Man 2019

The Tower is an interactive lifeguard stand and observation deck coming to Burning Man in 2019. Accessible by ladder, it looks eerily at home on an endless beach. Visitors can climb up to the 6' tall deck and observe the playa from a new vantage. Inside the hut, visitors can escape the elements to find simple tools for observation (binoculars, field notebook and pen) and ways to interact with passersby (whistle, life preserver). Named for card 16 in the Tarot’s Major Arcana, The Tower represents sudden change or upheaval. This tower is a place for a new perspective in the chaos. 

We will pre-build the wood structure by hand this summer in Seattle. In August, we will truck the pieces to Black Rock City and assemble it for the event. After the event, we will store The Tower in Nevada to be brought back (and eventually burned) in years to come.

Hotdog is the fearless visionary of this project, supported by a StarBarf-bound team including BigD, AMi, Dinosaur, and Chainmail Fiasco. Collectively, we bring over 25 burn's worth of wisdom to our first adventure bringing large-scale art to Burning Man.
