I'm reaching out to everyone to ask for a helping hand.   Scott Rainato is my stepdad.  He has been in my family's life for the past 8 years, but honestly it feels like he's been here my whole life.  He is a brilliant engineer, as well as a funny, and caring man who has always gone above and beyond for everyone in his life.

After being with my mom for 8 loving years, they finally got married in August of this year.  It was a beautiful ceremony with all of their closest friends and family there to share the love.

Now, after just 3 short months of marriage tragedy has struck our family.  Scott came down with a slight fever on Wednesday November 14th, and decided to stay home from work.  His fever persisted through the end of the week and by Saturday he was unable to stomach anything.  He was unable to even keep down water.  My mom took him to the emergency room at Orange Regional Medical Center where he was quickly admitted.  The doctors found that Scott had become infected with Staph and it was polluting his bloodstream.  They also discovered that the infection had also made its way to his heart, causing one of his aortic valves to stop working as well as an abscess in his heart.  The original plan was to perform a valve replacement and administer strong antibiotics to fight off the rest of the infection.  Unfortunately ORMC did not have the resources to perform the surgery so Scott needed to be transported to New York/Columbia Presbyterian Hospital where he is currently being treated in their Cardio Thoracic Intensove Care Unit.  Upon arrival to Columbia Presbyterian, Scott suffered a heart attack and had to be put on a respirator to aid in his breathing, as well as a pacemaker to keep his heartbeat steady.   He is also being kept sedated in order to keep his vitals up while his body tries to fight the infection.   Before the doctors were able to perform his open heart surgery, Scott had to be sent for a catscan to make sure the infection had not spread to any other part of his body.   When we received the results from the scan, our hearts started to break a little more.   The infection has possibly spread to his brain causing a brain bleed that has not been able to be stopped yet by his doctors.   Monday he will be sent for an angiogram in his brain in order to find the source of the bleeding and to look for an aneurysm. He will also be receiving a spinal tap in order to check if the infection has caused Scott to contract meningitis.

Scott is being treated by an incredible team of doctors who are doing everything in their power to ensure that his body will recover from this nightmare that has somehow become a reality for our family.

This tragedy is leaving my mom solely responsible for all of their bills, including their mortgage, insurance payments, car payments and medical expenses.  Their home together is in Middletown, NY which is about a 2 hour drive to NYC where the hospital is located.  She and Scott's wonderful mother have been staying in a small hotel near the hospital for about a week now, but my mom is afraid of what will happen if she can not return to work soon.

I'm asking you all, if you can spare it, to please help keep my mom on her feet, so that she can stay strong for Scott.

The news I'm sharing with you all this morning comes with an extremely heavy heart. Yesterday afternoon, God called Scott home.
He put up a very strong fight, but hes finally at rest now. Scott is already missed so much, and we will continue to carry him in our hearts everywhere we go. I know he is watching over us.
Pest in Peace Scott. We love you so, so much.

I now ask you all for your continued support in helping my mom, and the rest of Scott's family in covering funeral costs. These last few weeks have been an absolute nightmare, and all of this came so suddenly and unexpected. So please, hold your loved ones a little bit tighter every day.

I know everyone was promised an update, and I was hoping to be able to deliver some good news today, but unfortunately good news may have to wait a little longer.

Scott was supposed to be receiving and angiogram this morning to map his brains' vascular system and check for aneurysms but due to the results of his catscan yesterday evening, that will not be happening today. Scott's scans showed additional bleeding on the other side of his brain. His blood pressure, and platelet count are also much too low to for the doctors to perform the angio.

Please keep praying for Scott. He is showing some progress in his journey to recovery, but it's not without many speedbumps.

We thank you again for your continued support, contributions and prayers. ❤

We are so grateful for everyone's donations! Scott's condition hasn't changed yet, critical but stable. We were hopeful that today they would do 2 procedures to rule out aneurisms and infection in his brain; however, nothing is being done today. The angiogram will be done tomorrow and they are holding off on the spinal tap (which is pretty invasive). Please continue to pray for him and send him good thoughts. I feel so blessed by the whole family and by having my wonderful mother-in-law with me.
