As most of you know, on March 3rd 2017 we lost Rick Cooper unexpectedly. He was a well know and loved Operator and proud IBEW member (Local Union 77).
Last year Rick suffered a stroke and had been out of work while he recovered. Unfortunately, on the morning of March 3rd, he passed of a heart attack. Rick was a single father and sole provider of 3 kids -- a 21 year old son who helped care for Rick, an 18 year old son who is currently a high school senior, and a 15 year old daughter who is a high school sophomore. Although extended family has come from out of state to help, his children have now been left fatherless, with stacks of bills, and the fear of losing their childhood home. Rather than focusing on their education and graduating, they have been forced to grow up and focus on surviving financially.. All while grieving the loss of their amazing dad. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated... Their aunts who have selflessly came to Washington and stepped up to help were not financially prepared to care for these kids. These kids deserve to be KIDS and grieve their dad without the extra stress.
Rick was a big man with an even bigger heart. The love he had for his friends and family was out of this world. He was selfless, kind, caring, funny, an outstanding father, and gave the best hugs. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone and would always be there if you needed help. I was lucky enough to have Rick in my life for 26 years -- my entire life... And I'm sure I can speak for anyone who knew him, I was blessed beyond measure to have him in my life and he will be deeply deeply missed.
A special "thank you" to Rick's sister Dawn and his aunt Cheryl for stepping up and caring for Rick, Tristan, Dakota, and Anndraya. Your selflessness has not gone unnoticed.
