Well folks, I am in the middle of recording a new CD and can not see an end to this project without outside support.I have tracks recorded on 10 original David Young Waddell songs, but they are "in progress" and needs work in the studio for a finished Opus of 12 songs. I never have asked for support this way, but I owe much for the last records from my loving sponsors who support American country/blues(Americana) in Europe.I am 66 years old and have been in the "bizz" as my profession for over 50 years and will be until it's all said and done. I have been an Indie, before anybody knew what that was. Back in Nashville, we were tagged as"Outlaws" 'cause we bucked the industry system and were tired of being slaves to the record company giants. Below is my biographie .It is a long read, but like a journalist wrote once, "Reading Waddells bio is like a history lesson of American country,blues and rock and roll from the 60's until the present day".
David Waddell, born 1953 in Orangeburg South Carolina. Started his career playing trumpet, bass and singing in night clubs and strip joints on the Chitlin` Circuit in the Deep South .In his teens he played the summer season at the “Bowery” in Myrtle Beach,S.C. with a band out of Fort Payne, Alabama called “Wild Country”, who later changed their name to “ALABAMA”. In 1972 , during the formative years of the Austin Country-Rock Scene. He moved to Austin, Texas with his Rock/Blues/Country band "Celler Door" opening shows for JOHNNY WINTER, THIRD FLOOR ELEVATORS, MUDDY WATERS, JOHN MCLAUGHLIN and was a regular at the Black Queen, The One Night, Mother Earth and The Armadillo World Headquarters He gravitated to Nashville in 1976 and built a monument of work as a session player/road musician and harmony singer for BILLY JOE SHAVER, TOWNES VAN ZANDT , PAT MCLAUGHLIN , J.J. CALE, J.D. SUMNER AND THE STAMPS, STELLA PARTON, KATHIE MATEO, RICHARD DOBSON, DON EVERLY, BOBBY WHITLOCK (Derek and the Dominoes), GEORGE CUMMINGS(Dr.Hook), BILLY RAY REYNOLDS w/ DICKY BETTS and many others . There he began writing his own songs and co-writing with other known writers working for the many publishing houses on Music Row. David toured California with J.J.CALE in 1981. Recorded the J.J.CALE #8 Album on Polygram Records and played on stage with BOZ SCAGGS, NEIL YOUNG and DAVE MASON before moving back to Austin .In Austin , DAVID WADDELL, worked with BILLY JOE SHAVER, TOWNES VAN ZANDT, guitar great LONNY MACK with 2nd. guitarist STEVIE RAY VAUGHN and WAYNE “THE TRAIN”. In 1987 , David and brother Leland formed a band with CALVIN RUSSELL called “THE CHARACTERS” and had the release “ACT I “ on LINE RECORDS out of Hamburg,Germany .They toured Europe for 5 years and recorded 5 Records for the French label “New Rose” with major success under the artist CALVIN RUSSELL.
Back in Austin, he recorded , produced and played on records by BLAZE FOLEY, SHERI FRUSHAY, PAT MEARS, JESSE TAYLOR, RICH MINUS , THE KEEPERS and RAY FRUSHAY .Played bass with English rocker RONNIE LANE (Small Faces). In 1997, David started THE WADDELL BROTHERS BAND playing his own original material . After the death of friend TOWNES VAN ZANDT, He returned to Nashville a along with TOWNES` widow , Co-produced TOWNES`S archival recording``IN THE BEGINNING`` for Compadre Records. This move led to a record contract with TVZ RECORDS for Davids first solo recording``LAST ONE TO KNOW`` and a small ,songwriter publishing deal with BUG MUSIC NASHVILLE. His original songs have been recorded by THE KEEPERS, BILLY JOE SHAVER, SHERI FRUSHAY,JIMMY LEE JONES, BOB BROWN, MELISSA SELLERS,THE SKEETERS, JOHNNY NAPP, THE REDNECK BOYS, CLAUDIA ZIMMERMANN and THE SUN SKIPPERS,The song MOTHER TRUCKER , a co/write with BILLY JOE SHAVER appeared on BILLY JOES SHAVERS ”HIGHWAY OF LIFE” record and the“RIG ROCKS DELUXE” CD. Since October 2006 , David Waddell lives in Konstanz,Germany and created the Outlaw-CountryBlues group "DAVID WADDELL & HELLBOUND TRAIN". July 1, 2007 marked the release of ''TRUCK BROKE DOWN'' across Europe and in 2009 ``LONE STAR OVER TEXAS`` Today, DAVID WADDELL AND HELLBOUND TRAIN are now well known on the EuropeanCountry-Music-Festival scene for their hard-core Texas Outlaw Country Rock sound and energetic live peformances in Concert. 2012 marked the release of ``ANYTOWN,. USA`` recorded at NO ROOF STUDIOS in Nijmegen,Holland with production by JOS HAAGMANS & DAVID WADDELL. The lastest David Waddell Record is titled, "LAST OF THE OUTLAWS" on Deep South Productions released in 2017. Of late, David produced, wrote all the songs, sung three duos and played on the new release of "TRULY COUNTRY" in 2019 for THE SWISS ARTIST CLAUDIA ZIMMERMANN: Currently working on his new project in the works, "THE RAGE OF ANGELS"
