My name is Scott Siegel.   Kevin and Mujde Pidduck have been close freinds of mine since we became neighbors in Ventura in 2005.   As their family grew, they moved to a beautiful home on hillsides of east Ventura.   My dear friends tragically lost that home in the Thomas Fire that devistated the city of Ventura and Santa Paula.  Kevin and Mujde were able to safely evacutate with their prescious children, Helen and Ryder.  Sadly all but a handful of personal belongings were lost.
Kevin and Mujde were there for me at the absolute low point in my life.   They have hearts of gold and I am lucky to call them friends.   With all the outreach on their facebook pages, I know there are so many others that feel the same way that are compelled to help.
When I heard the news of their loss I was brought to tears.   No one deserves this and it is my hope that with some finanical support from their friends and family they can start to rebuild their lives and get back on their feet.  ***Edit to ensure the funds get distributed to The Pidduck's per the GoFundMe requirements:   The donations will be used for basic necessities...food, clothing, and sleeping arrangements.  Funds will be withdrawn immediately.  As was posted in their message ealier today, they had no renters insurance so these funds have greater urgency.

***UPDATE FROM THE PIDDUCK FAMILY***

To our family, friends and community,

Thank you so much for your love! We appreciate each and every one of you.

We want you to know that over the past two weeks we have bathed our grief in your kindness. Your messages of love and support have been the perfect antidote for the violation and trauma we feel. You reminded us that we are not alone and that the only thing that truly matters is that we were all in one piece. Yes, everything material that we ever held dear was torn from our lives in a matter of an hour. Yes, we lost the sweet sense of normalcy, of home, and the safety of that place. But our one true and enduring fortune – our love for each other -- endures. We are so thankful for each of you.

Of course the journey is still young. The grief comes in waves. We are reminded every day that as much as we try to return to normal life, it will be slow. It will be a process.

How are the kids? The truth is that we gain strength from our almost four year-olds. Their innocent acceptance of the fire has relieved us. They were awakened the night of the fire as we whisked them from the black pitch of the house into the oven-glow of the approaching fire. We worried about the fear, the audible stress in our voices, and how it would all play out. And yet Ryder’s reaction to learning that our house had burned down, along with everything in it, was to remark almost matter-of-factly: “Wellllllll, that’s NOT good.” And while Helen was upset that her mermaid doll burned, she was easily relieved by the fact that we can get another.

We are currently in our family’s home – thank goodness for an amazing family - and are working to find a new normal and creating a sense of home for our twins.

What’s next? Unfortunately, we didn’t have rental insurance. We are frankly mortified to have made this mistake. So the funds you helped us with will be critical for us to rebuild our lives. However, before we start rebuilding, we have decided to take an incredible opportunity offered to teachers at Oxnard Union High School District. We are currently making plans for a sabbatical year that will hopefully help us heal, and create new memories for all of us.

Thank you, again, for your love and support.

Much love,

Mujde, Kevin, Helen and Ryder
