The Nichols Family: A Time for Healing

Background
In 2012 our family was first impacted by cancer. My amazing mother, Ayda, was diagnosed with stage 3A lung cancer. After six months of chemo and radiation, and two months of remission, we were saddened to learn that the doctors had found metastasis in her brain. This was only the beginning of her now seven-year battle with this disease. She was able to have three wonderful years of remission after which the cancer came back, both in her lung and brain. This time, she was diagnosed as a terminal cancer patient. I’m happy to report this was back in December of 2016, which means we’ve had two hopeful years by her side. Since then, she’s endured a number of different treatments in order to maintain the growth of the cancer lesions controlled.Unfortunately, last week we learned that there are 12 new lesions growing rapidly in her brain.She’s currently undergoing radiation treatment yet again, which has been great cause for concern for us since she is now even more susceptible to the high risk side effects it could have on her cognitive function.
The Plan
During this time the outpour of love and support from our friends and family has been amazing. We have been given the wonderful gift of spending the week of spring break in a Condo in Sanibel Island, Florida, but we need the funds to fly our family there. I know It would mean the world to us to be able to spend this time together making memories as a family. To have a space where we nurture our family relationships and put cancer on pause. One of the biggest fears I’ve had during this journey is not having enough time to give back to my mom all of the love, the support, and the countless sacrifices she’s given me and my family thru the years. I would truly appreciate your help financing this trip so we can give back to her just a little piece of all the blessings she deserves.
