The Manor House Restoration Project

PROJECT UPDATE:
The amount that the Sir John Johnson Manor House Committee (SJJMHC) has to raise is now set at $700,000. due to Parks Canada spending more on their part of the project than expected.
The SJJMHC will now also have occupancy of the three downstairs rooms formally used by the Counties Library Branch (see attached floor plan rooms 111, 116, and 115) . We have started our renovations in those rooms. Much of the earlier work (removing book cases and old lighting , taking up carpet and 1/2" plywood) is being done by SJJMHC volunteers saving a considerable cost. Still this part will come in at approx. $17,000. This covers electrical (new wiring & lighting), patching & painting (not including the ceilings) and flooring: trying to preserve the original pine floor (well over 150 years old). We are very excited about this, as it restores the Manor House's historical appearance The cost of this part of the project will be covered by donations through GoFundMe, donations sent directly to the SJJMHC and by cashing out a GIC. Beyond that we have donation pledges totally $60,000. which will go towards the main restoration which is the upstairs.
The $60,000. breaks down as a $50,000. donation to be received over three years, $5,000. donated this year and $5,000. over five years. The $50,000 donation is in the transfer of investments to the SJJMHC. This is an effective way to donate.

This video describes the Sir John Johnson Manor House Committee's crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the extensive restoration of the Sir John Johnson Manor House. The Manor House, located in Williamstown, ON, is one of the oldest and most historically significant sites west of the Quebec border. Williamstown was established in 1784, as a Loyalist settlement after the American Revolution by Sir John Johnson. Sir John can be considered the founder of Eastern Ontario. The Manor House Committee, a volunteer, not-for-profit, charitable organization leases part of the downstairs of the Manor House. The Committee runs the Glengarry Archives, at Williamstown, out of this site. The Archives are accessed by people from all over North America wanting to do historical and family research. The Committee presented Parks Canada, the owner of the site, with a business plan to stabilize and restore the Manor House. The Committee intends to restore a suite and three bedrooms (to historical periods) on the second floor, to rent to the public. The revenue will go towards upkeep of the site. Parks Canada commissioned an engineering study which estimated the cost of the project at 1.4 million dollars. Parks Canada has committed 500 thousand dollars to the project. The Committee is working to raise the remaining 900 thousand dollars. The Committee is a registered charity and will issue income tax receipts for donations of $20.00 or more. Join us in this exciting project; our efforts will last for the next 200 years. We will keep an honour roll of those whose who are donating to help this project become a reality.
