Lets show the Lickiss family our Love and support.
Brant  works in law inforcement, and Karrah in the local ER. Both of them help people at some of the wrost times in their lives, and now, they are in need of help.
On March 22, 2018 Brant, Karrah and big sister Kinsley welcomed into the world Kain Maddux Lickiss weighing
6.4 lbs and 17 3/4 inches. Karrah had a difficult pregnancy as preterm labor started at week 28 Karrah used most of her PDO due to this but lil Kain was able to hang in there till week 37. Her labor was fairly easy and they headed home with what seemed to be a perfect baby.
Once home they soon relized he was not a happy baby, extremly fussy, vomiting and diarrhea with every feeding. Her doctors saying it was normal for breast fed babies. At Kain's 2 week check up red flags started popping up he was well below birth weight and hadn't grown in length. At 4 weeks old he fell even lower on the growth chart to 1st percentile. Now very alarmed his peditrican immediately sent them to a pediatric GI. The GI was also very concerned as Kain now weighted 5.3 lbs. (over a pound less than his birth weight) and immediately sent him to Arnold Palmer. After many tests and 6 days not many answers other than gastroparesis, slow empting stomach. Kain was put on multiple medications and gained 3 ounces at the hospital, so home they went. They continued to see the specialist on an outpatient bases.
Over the next few weeks Kain gained but extremly slow.
At 2 months old Kain weighted in at 6.1 lbs. still below his birth weight but had not grown in length since the first month, the average for a baby is 10-14 lbs and 22 inches in lenghth was the normal. Brant and Karrah where extremly concered, so back to the GI, they went.
The GI said he was still in the 1st percentile on the growth chart.  Kain was again admitted to Arnold Palmer hospital.
Karrah now has to take a leave of absence from work, the only thing on her mind is getting her lil guy better.
At the hospital they immeditly placed Kain on a special formula. They also called in a genetic specialist, who evaluated Kain and they are now looking for possible metabolic conditions, as well as  cystic fibrosis and other possible pancreas dissorders. Brant and Karrah are remaining extremly optimistic under the circumstances.
It is because of the following that we are looking to help Brant and Karrah with the many finacial issues that this has placed on their family. As we stated earlier Karrah used most of her PDO during her pregnancy and is now had to take a leave of absence from her job for an indefinite amount of time.
Brant is working any shift he can to provide for his family and this extreme financial burden that his been placed upon them. Doctor co-pays, hospital bills, medications and the largest issue Kains new formula. This formula is not puchased in a store it must be ordered under medical supervision and be shiped to their home.
This special formula will run them approximently $400.00 a month. It is not covered by insurance . They  have filled out applications for assistance but not falling below the estimated income level for a family of 4 it doesnt look good. Karrah and Kain got to come home after another week of hospitalization Thursday. Kain has started to weight on this new formula (liquid "gold"). Now they must wait for all the genetic test results and then have a second test for CF but this will be done as out patient.
While the family waits for answers, you can imagine this is very stressful. So we as friends, family, co workers, and community can do for them is to try and releive some of the finacial burdens they have already indured and the upcoming expenses they will indure in the future. Your support will be extremly appreciated as we pull together for the Lickiss Family and Lil Kainier.

Thank you everyone for your kindness, Love and prayers. Kain is gaining weight 7lbs 4oz. I know this doesn't sound like a lot for a 3 month old, but we will take every oz. we can get. The Dr. and nutritionist have added calories to Kains formula which has increased the price $ per oz of a feeding as a can of supplement is around $106.00 but it is well worth it as Kain is more alert, smiling and cooing. Still very fussy and still too many unanswered genetic questions as we wait on testing and results.
Genetic testing is a process and results are not quick. So please continue to pray for Kain, Brant Karrah and Kinsley. And Thank you EVERYONE for your support as I know your support has indeed taken some stress away from Brant and Karrah. And your "kindness" has blown them away as they feel very blessed to have so many people in their lives showing them support.❤
