The Journey for Justice

Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids received an urgent call for help on November 24th, 2017. The story was almost too horrific to believe. A cat had become snared in a legal tube trap that somehow broke loose from the ground. Dragging the trap and chain still attached to her front limb, this little calico crawled underneath the hood of a car for safety. She then became wedged in the engine compartment. The car traveled approx. 12 miles to another town when people heard crying. The police responded as did Wildthunder Rescue and Rehab and this kitty was extricated from the engine. She was in shock, with a trap dangling from her leg and severe burns over her body from the engine. It is just hard to imagine. But it happened. Justice was transported to Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center in Cedar Rapids for emergency treatment through Critter Crusaders. She remains hospitalized with a severe compression injury to her left wrist joint from the trap and full thickness burns to that leg as well as her hips and multiple other areas. Justice is on IV fluids, antibiotics and great pain control. Her paw is swollen with compromised circulation from the trap injury. The doctors feel that it is best to give these wounds time to declare themselves. Many times, burns will actually expand after the initial injury. The same is true for compression injuries. The hope is that with circulatory re-perfusion, her front limb might be saved. The decision on that is pending. Some people believe that an animal like this should just be humanely euthanized. If Justice had no chance of a viable life, that might have been an option, but we are confident that she will survive and thrive, with a little help from her friends. Rescuing these badly injured pets requires a faith in veterinary medicine and the resolve to be with them every step of the way. As Justice rests in her kennel, she presses her head into your hand and purrs. Her will to survive is evident and now it becomes our job to make that happen!

If you believe as we do, please consider a donation to this HUGE medical effort.... "The Journey for Justice".

All contributions to Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids are tax deductible and will go directly to this girl’s medical care. If you are not in a position to donate, please keep Justice in your thoughts and help by sharing her story as we travel this long road back to health. Thank you all   ❤️
