The Journey Continues Recording Project

Donation protected
It's been 6 years since I released, "The Journey" my first solo recording as an artist. In that time period, it has opened the doors for me playing festivals, cruise ships, private and public events around the world, got me on countless radio and print interviews, gear endorsements, but most importantly it gave me a voice as an artist to express myself, who I am and even what I stand for. I am grateful for all the doors it's opened and for every performance I've done in support of the CD.

I get so busy as a sideman guitarist, writer and producer for other artists, it sometimes makes it difficult to make time to work on my project, write new music and book shows to support it, but it is what makes me most happy. There is nothing more worthwhile than investing in yourself, your brand, your career.

For those that haven't heard "The Journey" yet, you can scroll down and listen to it on the player here so you can hear the level of quality I'm committed to: https://danhagenmusic.com/artist/

I have never done a crowdfunding campaign before, am not good about asking for money, but funding my last cd on my own took me to the poorhouse, and I finally have the courage to make this Go Fund Me campaign because without the help of my friends and fans, I literally can't make this recording. I will be producing this project, will hire the best of the best musicians in town to play on it and intend to record at some of my favorite studios. Ultimately, how I record this CD and the time it takes to make it is completely dependent upon how much money I raise. If I raise less than the goal, it will take me longer, but I'm committed to completing and releasing this project regardless of the outcome of the campaign.

I call my music Gumbo music because it crosses so many genres, all thrown in a pot and stirred together, so it is as diverse as can be and there is something for everyone, from FUNK, JAZZ, BLUES, SOUL, LATIN, FLAMENCO, ROCK, ETC... You name it and we'll cook it up. So, I want to just show you some sketches of a few of the songs I'll record, just me and the guitar, so you'll hear some of the composition, but not the instrumentation as most songs will be with a full band:

"Cause we ended as lovers" is one of my favorite Jeff Beck tunes and there is a side of me that is definitely inspired by the master himself, I've always felt so free expressing myself on this one and so looking forward to creating some magic on it in the studio.

"Hit the Hookah" is a fun Middle-Eastern sounding Nuevo-Flamenco tune in 5/4, I can't wait to record with layers of percussion, Bass and maybe trumpet:

"Let's Stay Together" is one of my fav Soul Al Green songs I can't wait to record with the band.

"Risen" is a modern Pop-Fusion tune that means a lot to me. Here's just a clip of a section from this song that will be a lot of fun to put together in the studio:

"January Song" I wrote a few years ago, is an a very unorthodox tuning I created and will be the only solo guitar song on "The Journey Continues":

"Peace" is one of my favorite Jazz Ballads and this one will have a modern sound with the band. I think the world can use a lot more peace and that's how this one makes me feel when I play it, so I feel good about recording it and getting it out into the world:

Those are some of the more mellow tunes. Don't worry, there'll be some Nasty, Upbeat,  Blues tunes and Swanky Funk to spice it up, another flamenco tune and more.

So here's the fun part. I want to offer some different packages and incentives for you that are contributing.

***First of all, any amount helps, but anyone that contributes $15 or more will get an advanced and autographed CD Copy mailed to them. Also, will get a download of the whole project.

$500 and up will get the advanced autographed CD, download and their name written in high praise on the liner notes.

$1000 and up gets the advanced autographed CD,  download, their name written in high praise on the liner notes and a personal invitation to ACTUALLY BE AT THE RECORDING STUDIO when we record "The Journey Continues".

I'm a business man and entrepreneur and jazz musician in spirit and improvising is a way of life for me.  In that mindset, I want to invite you to throw ideas at me for custom packages you come up with.... Also, I'm not scared to work in any way to make this happen. EG, some random ideas:

*Dan, for $250, I'll contribute to your Recording project if you mow my yard for 3 weeks this spring.

or

*Dan, I'll contribute $300 if you play guitar on 3 tracks on my upcoming EP.

or

*Dan, for a $375 contribution, you can cook some vegan food for me for a week.

Seriously, let's make this fun. Please share this with your friends on social media, family, email it to people that dig music or however you think will help spread the word and fund this exciting project I'm so grateful to record soon!!!

I'd like to get the project funded by early 2019(January, February) and start recording soon after and if the funding is there, have it all recorded by the spring, mixed and released before the summer. The funding will go to studios, musicians, recording engineers, mix and mastering engineers, photographers, designers and CD manufacturing, etc. Custom projects I produce for artists can easily cost $2,000-3,000 per track. I will save a lot of $$ by producing this project myself, which I am qualified to do(produced my last cd, countless artists and music for TV/FILM/RADIO, etc):

Thank you so much for your consideration!! If it wasn't for all the generous support from my fans, I would have never gotten this far and had the courage to keep pushing forward in my music career and particularly, my Solo Artist career....

Also, did I tell you I'm going to sing on a couple songs on this one?!?! Yup, it's going to happen.....

Peace and thanks again,
~Dan Hagen
