There are many people around the country who knew my grandfather well, he was a beloved character wherever he went and touched the lives of everyone he met.
To myself, my brothers and my father he was the rock at the centre of our world and I for one can happily say that no other man has had such an influence on my life and character or shaped the person I am today as much as my grandfather did. My childhood memories are laden with fishing trips, bowls excursions and a thousand games of cribbage (all of which I lost!) with Harold and I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. As one of the amazing carers at his final care home put it 'He was our gentle giant'
Willow House in South Brent, Devon was where Harold spent his final days and having spent the last few days there with him I can honestly say that he couldn't have been anywhere better. He was cared for and loved by all at the home until the very end.
It is for those carers and that facility that we would like to appeal to you to make a small donation, Harold was insistent that no flowers be sent for his funeral so we felt it more fitting that anyone wishing to make a small donation could do so in the name of a good cause.
If we could raise even just a small amount of money to help provide the nurses and carers at Willow House with vital equipment they need in order to continue the great work they do then I am sure that old Mutton Chops himself would approve.
