Fred Lepley, owner of Lepley Ham Loaf on 12th Street, and lifetime resident of Franklin, Pa. is in a fight for his life.  Fred has been diagnosed with an inoperable tumor of the brain and is currently being treated with chemotherapy and radiation at Shadyside UPMC Northwest. He will be there for several days, he will then come home for in-home treatment. It will be the first time Fred will be home since December 29th. He is scheduled to go back to Shadyside again on February 14th for another treatment. Fred's eyesight and balance has also been effected by the tumor.

Because of Fred's recent illness, Fred and his wife Jackie, who continues to work as a substitute teacher, have had to close the doors of their fledgling business, Lepley Ham Loaf just as their medical bills have started to surge.

My classmates and I have taken the initiative to start a fund to help curtail some of Fred's medical bills during this time of uncertainty in Fred's life.  We have set the goal high as the bills are mounting and will continue for some time as Fred fights the good fight.

Donations continue to come in for Fred and his family. Although they have slowed a bit, expectations are still high! Please continue to keep Fred and his family in your thoughts and keep sharing these updates and the original post. We have not yet reached 10% of our goal, and I know there are a lot more friends and neighbors that would like to help out Fred and his family if only they knew of this campaign.

Just when I thought this campaign was beginning to stall, overnight we received a donation of $5000 from an anonymous donor!

The latest update on Fred's condition: He is in Shadyside now for another treatment. The MRI he had on Thursday shows the tumor has shrunk. His left arm and leg have improved a little but his sight in his left eye has not really improved.

When friends need help, friends step forward.
Happier times with Fred and Jackie

Jackie and Fred, You may wish to look into some of the online research, videos, and books of Dr. T. Colin Campbell of Cornell University, and Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr. of Cleveland Clinic about the importance of diet in preventing and recovering from various illnesses, including cancer. Best wishes and prayers for a quick and complete recovery. Don
