The Flaming Buoy Filet Co.

Dear friends, family, strangers, and supporters of the Oxford comma,

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.

And then this happened:

The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. is still in the process of opening our new location at 424 Eaton Street.

Following the financial hit of Hurricane Irma and the sale of our building, we found this a necessary, if not wholly inevitable move.

Nine years after Fred and I opened The Flaming Buoy Filet Co., we again find ourselves and our exceptional staff continuously and exhaustively working with delirious joy – and the occasional panic – recreating what made The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. so special to Key West, to us, and to our many guests – quite a few of whom we now lovingly consider our dearest friends. Our successes are measured in this.

We are thrilled, however, with our new neighborhood, our new frontier, as it were. Our new neighbors have been overwhelmingly generous in welcoming us as we seek out a new life in this strange new world.

To share our brand new/same old restaurant with everyone is our greatest anticipation.

(Cue mood swing. Think Sarah McLachlan and her busted up dogs.)

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts in planning a smooth transition, opening the new location has taken a rather challenging turn.

Key West has faced no shortage of financial challenges for employers and employees in the year following Hurricane Irma. Ours has been no different.

Thus, we find ourselves here, asking for your help.

Financial assistance from the pretender to the throne of Nigeria has gone horribly astray.

So, to borrow a phrase:  Help us...You're our only hope.

As of October 1, The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. is no longer generating an income. Income that fueled our move to Eaton Street; income that supported a staff of ten and provided for their families; income that Fred and I always put back into The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. to make her a better dining experience.

We expected this situation to remain unchanged through the month of November.

Our goal–our pledge–is to continue to remain intensely focused and have finished this project at 424 Eaton Street as quickly as possible, making certain that the staff of The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. neither needlessly suffer nor worry through these unexpected bureaucratic delays and surprise expenses incurred while undertaking this grand enterprise.

Thank you for considering us.

Regards,
Scot & Fred
