The Fight Continues With Your Help

Imagine waking up to a call stating your work, a haven for sexual violence survivors, a place where they felt comfortable to share their stories, was destroyed.  An office where people felt safe enough to speak about horrific events that happened in their lives...gone.  On Friday, March 23rd, at about 1 A.M., the Sexual Assault Support Center (SASC) staff woke up to this nightmare.  The damage from the fire and smoke was something we will never forget.  And I have to say, it was an incredibly hollowing experience for us at the center.

We were all rendered speechless seeing the broken glass, fractured doors, blackened walls, and desks covered in soot.  The windows that brought in such a beautiful, natural light to us now held a grey haze of eerie stillness.  Seeing pictures drawn from our child clients covered in ash is something we never thought we'd experience.  Through all of this, though, we are not deterred.  
 
As of now, we are accepting donations as all of our property (furniture, brochures, toys for children, food/water for clients, etc.) was damaged in the fire.  We are also unable to provide services to clients in the form of having no permanent meeting space for support group or to individually meet with clients in a comfortable environment. 

The fight against sexual violence is not one that can be fought alone.  This is why we need our community's help!  Your donations will make our center thrive again and continue to help survivors.  This fire will not destroy us and will not keep us from assisting survivors of sexual violence.
