The Dots - FLL World Championship

$1,220 of $5,000 goal

Raised by 26 people in 9 months
HI!  We are The Dots, a FIRST LEGO League (FLL) team made up of eight 7th and 8th graders from Chippewa Middle School.

We competed in the Minnesota FLL State Championship on Feb 24 and did much better than we expected.  We won an award for Best Teamwork and were recommended for the Global Innovation award for our research project solution.

But the biggest surprise was winning the 3rd place Champions Award!  This earned us a trip the FIRST World Championship in Detroit, MI!  On April 25-28, 2018, we will be competing with 108 other FLL teams from 42 countries.

We are raising funds to help with travel expenses.  Any donation would be very much appreciated.  Thank you for your support!

Dear friends,

Our next adventure is going to the Global Innovation Awards (GIA) in San Jose, California, from June 19 - 21. The GIA is an international competition between FIRST Lego League teams to see who has the most innovative invention which solves a real-world problem. Twenty teams from around the world compete to win $20,000 dollars to further develop their invention. Our project is a smart home device and app that allows you to monitor your water usage in fun and easy way. You can find out more about the competition at https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll/global-innovation.

There will be a livestream of the award ceremony for anyone wanting to watch. The livestream will start on Thurs (6/21) at 6:00pm. It will showcase the teams who are competing, along with the award presentation at 7:30pm. You can watch the livestream at: https://www.twitch.tv/firstinspires

To follow our adventure, be sure to follow our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/theDotsRobotics/). We'll be posting pictures all this week.

Once again, we thank you for supporting us and we hope that you can watch the livestream.

Sincerely ~ The Dots

So!

We had a great time at Worlds. We met a lot of great teams from other countries like Canada, Korea, and Ireland. It was really fun to meet teams from all over the world. Also, we won a 3rd place award for presentation!

We also have more exciting news: we are semifinalists for the Global Innovation Award! We were one of only 20 teams in the world invited to go to California to talk about our project. The top team wins $20,000 and two teams will win $5,000. We will travel to California in June so we will be busy working on that.

Be sure to watch our social media pages on Twitter (@thedotsrobotics), Instagram (@thedotsrobotics), or Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/theDotsRobotics/) for more updates. See you there and thank you for your support!
