The CHASE is on at Junior World Championships

The CHASE is on for Junior World Championships 2019 in Valmalenco Italy! Fourteen year old Chase Capicik, from Squamish British Columbia,  has been chosen to represent Team Canada on the World stage. Skiing for Freestyle Whistler and the BC Team she will be the youngest competitor at this exciting event. She is shocked, stunned and humbled to be joining BC Team member Jessica Linton and Quebec skiers Kayley Koehler and Sandrine Vaillancourt to compete with the Canadian team.

Chase has been skiing since she was 2 years old and is now in the 9th grade French Immersion program at Don Ross Middle School.  As well as dedicating much of her time to training on the slopes she is also a dedicated soccer player and dancer. She plays soccer with her U16 Squamish United team and dances Hip Hop and Ballet with the Howe Sound Dance Academy.

She will be competing in moguls in Valmalenco which is known to be one of the hardest moguls courses in the world. Chase welcomes the difficulty and prefers hard courses where she needs to be tactical and get creative. Chase's mother, Tami Bradley, represented Canada in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics for mogul skiing while her father, Andy Capicik, represented Canada in the 1994, 1998 and 2002 Olympics for Aerial skiing.

Following in her parents footsteps, and with the support of her family and friends, this dedicated young girl has grown into the passionate, consistent athlete she is today. In competition she never waivers. She has a strong will and the mind and desire to do her best every time she is on the hill. Even more inspiring is her sportsmanship, compassion and positivity towards her friends, teammates and competitors. She is always cheering them on and congratulating them on a job well done no matter what the outcome of the event.

This season has been an incredible one for Chase,  she started her season strong at the Canadian selections in Apex, BC followed by her first International FIS Noram event.  From there Chase went on to win all three Timber Tour mogul events and was the Overall BC Champion for Slopestyle, Big Air, Moguls and Dual Moguls.  She also competed in the Junior and Senior National Championships in Quebec this year where her highlight was skiing in the same competition as Mikeal Kingsbury - the best Mogul skier in the world! She placed, 2nd and 3rd at Juniors and 4th at Seniors.

It was less than 3 weeks ago when her family got the call from the Canadian National Team telling them that Chase had been selected to go to Junior Worlds. With her season going from 6 events to an unexpected 9 events she has been pushed way outside of her budget for the season.   Any contribution to Chases International Adventure to help with travel costs, coaching fees and event entry in Italy would be hugely appreciated more than words can say!

Chase has never skied outside of Canada and will be skiing this weekend in two events - single and dual moguls. She is very excited for this International adventure and has said this first World Event is for the experience and she is honoured to represent her country.

We will keep you posted on live scoring and live TV as we get information later this week!
