I will be going in two weeks, personally paying my own way to work with the team and document the huge milestone; ‘Once street children, now college students’ A remarkable achievement by the boys, our founder Justin Dickinson, the team of local staff and all of our supporters and sponsors.
The Big Umbrella House Nepal provides a safe and stable long-term rehabilitation residence for children in Kathmandu. We provide housing and education for former street children in Nepal, to ensure they are given every opportunity to succeed. We help communities to create change by working towards and supporting family reintegration and long-term social and emotional support.
Family reintegration is the most challenging and resource heavy aspects of our project as it takes years of dedication, understanding and lots of love. A college degree will support their lives well into the future and ensure they have the opportunity in securing employment.
We are so proud of our achievements, but our work is not finished.
A college education provides opportunities for these young men to gain secure employment that will support their families and communities.
My Story - April, 2019 I met the boys; TBU house Nepal was everything I could've imagined from the stories I was told and the posts and photos I had read on Facebook. I was welcomed like family and I had an unforgettable experience. I walked through slums and dark alley ways to the places the TBU boys called home for so long. I got to meet face to face, the family members and relatives that were so thankful and grateful for TBU’s work and how they have assisted their family and son over the years.
I got to see first hand the incredible work The Big Umbrella does and has done for the past 10 years. I’ll never forget those faces and their homes.
