The 71st Precinct Orchestra Kittens

On August 9th, five kittens were found on the steps of the 71st Precinct in Brooklyn. They were orphaned, dirty, and emaciated.  Several had eye infections, and they were all suffering with stomach issues and the after-effects of starvation. Through the kindness of the staff and officers there, they found a foster home.

At first they were weak. Fending for themselves meant they were not used to eating, and bottle feedings started tentatively at first. Once they got the hang of it, though, they became the best snackers in the business.

Today, they are five playful, personality-packed, healthy kittens. It has not been an easy road getting here, but we are so blessed to see them grow into the most loving, affectionate kittens to ever exist. Soon they'll be ready for forever homes, but until then, groceries for a growing family, shots, and other medical costs mount.

The funds will be used to recoup just some of the costs involved raising five hungry, growing, wonderful kittens. Below is a list of some expenses we've seen so you can know exactly what any help you can provide gives back to these little guys:

-Emergency Room Fees, $200: We almost lost one of the little ones. It was a terrifying day, but with the kindness and know-how of an incredible ER staff, he pulled through.

-Initial Checkup Fees, $150: We took the babies in their first day, sick and in need of care. They needed eye medication to keep them from going blind, and they had a few tests run. For five little guys, this is the best vet care we could ask for at an incredibly generous price from Alison Animal Hospital.

-Second Checkup / Shots, TBD: Everyone will need to get second-round shots, and follow up costs. We are so proud of them for making it to this point. They are growing, healthy, and ready to go see the vet again!

-Heater, $25: These little guys have a hard time regulating their body temperatures when they're young, especially when they start out malnourished. The heater became their best friend, even in the summer months.

-Kitten Meal Replacer, $15 / Can: Each can of KMR helps feed the kittens. It's not mother cat's milk, but it's the next best thing. At first, they could finish two cans once every two weeks, but as they've grown, it's gotten closer to three or four cans per week.

-Litter, $10 / Package: The babies are litter-box trained! We are so proud of these champion babies for being so clean and considerate, but with five, they do run through it!

-Laundry, $8 / Load: As with any set of babies, there is laundry to be done with dirty towels, blankets, heating pad covers, and toys. We love em, and it helps that they're the most adorable bundes of joy in the world, but the time and cost grow over time.

-Bottles, $5 each: As the little ones have started developing teeth (a great sign of a healthy, growing kitten), they have run through the bottles biting off more bottle nippes than we can count in their haste to eat. It's adorable, but costly.
