UK JAZZ GUITAR GETAWAY
We are raising funds to establish the only 5 day Jazz Guitar workshop in the UK in the summer of 2020 in Canterbury, Kent. The week will involve small groups of guitarists each with a tutor and using the Great American Songbook as source material.
Our team are guitarists and know how difficult it is to find a Jazz Guitar course that is all-encompassing in providing enough knowledge and insight required to improve our Jazz that doesn't require enrolling into a long-winded course and sacrificing work commitments. That is why we are organizing the first UK Jazz Guitar Getaway for other like-minded players who want to receive the highest level of instruction from renowned tutors in a sociable environment with other guitarists but with more variety and intensity than weekly private tuition.
We are offering a 5 Day 'Getaway' that will tackle different facets of jazz guitar playing from a number of world-class tutors.
We have already confirmed the great Sid Jacobs as a tutor, a truly unique guitarist, recording artist and educator who has played with the likes of Harold Land, Eddie Harris, Buddy Montgomery, Joe Diorio, Brad Mehldau, Larry Goldings, and Javon Jackson. Sid has also published a number of jazz guitar books and tuitional videos. More information about Sid can be found at www.sidjacobs.com. More esteemed tutors and guest speakers are to be confirmed and we are looking to only the best.
Whilst there will be a heavy emphasis upon improvisation, different days throughout the Jazz Guitar Getaway will have their own theme including; Comping, Jazz Vocabulary, Solo Guitar and Approaching Tunes. This will give participants the opportunity to really dig deep into the areas of jazz guitar that we ourselves as students would like to study to make us more complete jazz guitarists.
Each tutor will give classes to small groups and as the week progresses each group will have spent time with all of the tutors. Throughout the week there will be a number of masterclasses for all participants so that the tutors can give a more detailed insight to their particular niche or area of expertise with a Q&A session at the end.
There will be three performances from our tutors during the week with an opportunity for everyone to perform at the finale.
Private room accommodation and catering will be provided so that the only concern for our guitarists is playing the guitar.
A selection of classes will be recorded and available to download on our website and those who donate £50 and more will have free access to two downloads of their choosing.
We are also aware of how expensive a course like this could be for some and will be offering a scholarship to a guitarist who could otherwise not afford to join us. Our scholar will be selected by way of an audition video and in accordance with our eligibility criteria.
Your donations will not only go toward funding the scholarship, but will go toward establishing what we hope can become an institution for Jazz Guitarists to enjoy for many years to come!
