Help Vienamese Hmong Woman Treatment Cancer

This is the story of Mrs. Thanh, her full name is Giang Thi Thanh (pronounce “Than”). She is a 22 years old Hmong woman, an ethnic minority of North Vietnam. She is from Ban Linh Mong Village, Cao Pha Ward, Mu Cang Cang Chai District of Yen Bai Province. She and her husband,  Ly A Ninh, a 25 year old farmer, have a 3 year old girl and a one-year old boy.

She has got bone cancer growing on her left breast for a few years, but until recently she wasn’t aware of her disease. She is a young poor woman who lives in the farm and who had no education. She lives far from any medical services and doesn’t speak Vietnamese, only Hmong language. She felt a small bump above her breast, but as it did not hurt, she didn’t think it was something serious. Since her mother has passed away there were no other women in the family for whom she could talk about it so she ignored it as something that would pass.

Recently she started feeling pain on her left side breast and decided to travel to Hanoi. She left her village for the first time and went to get a medical check-up.  The doctor of the International cancer hospital in Hanoi diagnosed her with bone cancer but told that the tumor couldn’t be treated due to its very big size.

After knowing that, I (Asus Giang, her older brother), decided to travel to Hanoi and visited the doctor with my sister again. My knowledge of Vietnamese/English helped me to get more information about her condition, and know that although her cancer can’t be treated in this hospital it is still at level 1.

This is a huge amount for a poor farmer’s family in Vietnam, but is also her only chance to get treatment and continue with her life and to take care of her two little kids.

As her brother I’m promoting this worldwide campaign with the hope of finally enable her to get the treatment she needs.

By contributing with any amount and sharing this campaign through your networks, you will make a big difference and help me to be one step closer to her cure.
