Founded in 2007, Translatina Network is made up of transgender individuals working locally and nationally to promote the healthy development of transgender Latina communities. Through the delivery of a wide range of information about services and events, educational outreach, and capacity building resources, Translatina Network supports individuals in maintaining personal wellness and developing leadership skills. This work also allows for the creation of safe and productive spaces for transgender women free of transphobia and discrimination. Translatina Network addresses the collective concerns of Latina transgender women including the recognition of their rights, giving a voice to the voiceless, and advocating for change promoting a direct connection to policy makers.
The driving force behind Translatina Network is our transfeminist peers and colleagues. Our initiative was born of their collective efforts fighting for Translatina rights in New York. As community members and providers they continue to lead the way while remembering: “This is our story, our fight, our identity as Translatina women.” It takes a strong team to deliver strong results! We are an exceptional team providing everything you need to stay informed and actively engaged with your community.
Translatina Network works with many people who are of low economic status, immigrants, and are of the LGBTQ community. They are bright individuals who want an equal chance in the world. The programs we provide are tailored towards meeting their social needs through weekly groups. Translatina Network also hosts another group that is focused on career development and their physical/sexual wellbeing. We also provide one-on-one case management, where our counselors utilize our network of resources to support our community with name changes and legal services, medical connections, certification, trainings, guest speakers, etc. We serve our community with consideration, efficiency, and most importantly: LOVE.
Our Community Closet is a program that we’ve launched to minimize the burden of clothing on our community. Our program has served over 150 clients by providing an accessible, rotating selection of shirts, pants, dresses, shoes and accessories; we aim to support the clothings needs of our members. We receive gently worn clothing through donations. We inspect, wash, and store the clothing in a storage unit until rotation. Your donations will aide in supporting our Community Closet program by funding our washing, and clothing storage expenses.
