Sending the Terrys to Nicaragua

Donation protected
Over the years, our experiences in youth ministry have allowed us the opportunity to take a number of students to many places and give them and opportunity to “go,” just like Jesus commanded, and show real love to others.

For the last several years, we had been told about some great things that were happening up in the mountains of Nicaragua. Then, in the summers of 2013 and 2014, Jason was able to take teams of students and adult volunteers to work at the Mision para Cristo, in Jinotega.

It was incredible.

The work at the mission is incredibly diverse. There are medical, dental, and vision clinics, educational programs for children, literacy programs, child sponsorship programs, provisions for sustainable and clean drinking water, care facilities for new and expecting moms, and so much more, all in addition to the opportunities for specific spiritual growth and development. As our students found great ease in discovering work that matched their talents and passions, they also found great ease in falling in love with the Nicaraguan people…seeing them the way that Jesus sees them.

But that wasn’t the best part.

Life at the Mision para Cristo is real. It’s authentic. The love is genuine. All of this is evidenced by the fact that none of the missionaries at the mission work FOR the Nicaraguans. All of the work at the mission is done WITH the Nicaraguans. This means that, if all the missionaries at the mission were to magically disappear tomorrow morning, the work there would go on. It’s not a system of dependency. The Nicaraguans are empowered by the presence of the Mision para Cristo.

The last year of our lives in the Terry house has been…uh…full of adventure. Most days have been filled with more questions than answers. Ambiguity has washed over our lives like a tidal wave, at times, but God has proven faithful through it all. One example of His grace came to us a couple of weeks ago when we were invited to come spend a week at the mission in Jinotega so that we can talk things over, ask a bazillion questions, allow Jamie and the boys to experience things first hand, and see how we could potentially contribute to the work of the Kingdom in Jinotega on a long-term basis.

When we first got this news we began praying immediately for God’s direction and provision. In that first family meeting we told our 4-year-old that we needed to pray for God to help us.

“…Because it’s gonna take a lot of money to go?” he said.

When we told him that was right, he responded by saying “Well, I’ve got eighty-six dollars!”

At our house, our motto is “We’re Terrys and Terrys help people, just like Jesus helped people, because God loves us.” Little man seems to be getting this figured out pretty well, but, as excited as we are to have such an amazing opportunity come our way, we know we can’t do this on our own.

We need you.

God has proven true to His word many times over in our lives and, we’re sure, in yours, as well. We are willing and committed to go, but we must be sent. We need your prayers. We need you to support us financially, even if it’s only $5… or $86. We need you to share our story. Tell others about our need. Blow up your Facebook, your Twitter, Vine, Instagram, and whatever else you got so that people will know.

The dates of our visit are scheduled for June 27-July4, so we have to act fast. Of the $3,000 we’re looking for, $2,000 is for airline tickets for the four of us. Another $500 is for our general expenses in-country (fuel, food, lodging, etc.). The other $500 is for unexpected incidentals and travel documents… Did you know a 1-year-old needs a passport?

If you want to know more, please send us a message or give us a call. If you want to know more about the Mision para Cristo, go check out their website at www.misionparacristo.com.

“But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it?”
