I am extremely happy to report the transplant was successful! How thankful we are! Unfortunately this is NOT the end of the battle physically or financially. As Teresa has recovered she has fought several illnesses, some of them requiring hospitalization. She is also battling graft vs host disease and is having chemo one day a week to help. This is all very frustrating! The healing process is exhausting and slow, and although Teresa is continually improving she is still not able to work and support herself. She's on a fixed income and is struggling to make ends meet. A friend has generously allowed her to live in his house but the living environment is old, mildewy and not healthy. Teresa is hoping to find other living arrangements but options are slim. Her medical and pharmaceutical expenses are very high. It all adds up with the amount of doctor appointments and high cost drugs required!
Teresa also currently has physical limitations. She cannot drive and is greatly dependent on others. She's going to physical therapy weekly to improve her strength and stamina. Her support group of family and friends has been great! Thank you so much for all you've done so far! After the transplant she had volunteers stay with her 24/7 for three months. Since then there have been countless rides, grocery shopping trips, meals, cleaning, and laundry done on her behalf. She is very grateful to all those who have helped! She could not have done it without you!
Please consider supporting Teresa financially. Even donating that $5 that you would have spent on coffee would help. If that isn't doable helping out with her day-to-day life (things like grocery shopping, making meals, taking her to appointments) would be greatly appreciated. Teresa is a long time friend of my family who in February was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). It has caused her to lose her source of income and yet she will need around $40,000 total (a rough estimate) to pay for all the expenses an out-of-town bone marrow transplant will incur. She needs to pay medical expenses and travel for her and her caregivers up front. She will be out of work for at least another year, be in the hospital after the transplant for at least a month, and will need to continue to stay out of town in a hotel nearby for at least 100 days. Not to mention she has to cover any normal daily living expenses such as food, cell phone, car insurance, etc.
We've already seen amazing things take place with your support and prayers! Instead of having to go all the way to the Mayo Clinic to get her Transplant, she has been given the OK by her insurance company to go to the James Center in Columbus. Please continue to support her with your prayers and any financial contribution you feel you can. Even taking that $5 you were going to spend on coffee tomorrow morning and giving it, instead, will help!
Teresa wants to get well for her teenage daughter and her son and his new wife. She wants to be there for them, to see and enjoy grandkids. She wants to celebrate life with her friends and family. Finally, she wants to be able to give back, find God's purpose for her "new" life and fill it with excitement. Let's help her acheive these goals with the least amount of stress possible by helping her with this huge financial burden!
