Hello dear friends and animal lovers, meet Tenzing, our new foster son, and a very kind soul. Tenzing, named after the first mountaineer to reach the top of Mt. Everest, has climbed his version of Everest, in his own, small, rabbity way. He has lived thru a lifetime of neglect, compounded with resent abandonment on a parkway in Long Island.
He came to me through a friend who lives next to the woman who found him on the side of the road 2 weeks ago. Knowing all I do about rabbits, I knew I could help and that this guy needed a safe and loving and knowledgable home to regain his strength. Our best estimation, after seeing a vet, is that Tenzing is nearly 10 years old and has never had vet care in his life. We guess that his previous owners decided that now that spring is here, it's time to set their old bunny "free". As rabbit people know, this is a very cruel punishment and no adandoned bunny lives long. Thank goodness he was found when he was.
After a visit to a wonderful vet tech and amazing person that I met thru the IG rabbit community, we know a bit more about Tenzing's health. So far, Tenzing's laundry list of health issues are cataracts in 1 eye, extremely underweight, small tumors on his cheeks, sides, ankle, and head, engorged testical with tumor, calcium levels high from bad diet, white blood cells high from unknown infection, arthritis for which he is certainty on meds 2X daily, and that's just what we know right now.
We have only known this sweet old man for 3 days, and he has already made a huge impression on our hearts. Tenzing's previous owner made a choice to abandon him, leave him for dead, no longer to care whether he got hit by a car or eaten by a hawk, yet somehow, Tenzing is here with us and has the strongest, largest, most loving and spunky spirit I have ever seen. We will care for him and fight for him like he deserves, like no one has before. Please help us provide Tenzing with the cafe he needs after humanity has been so cruel to him for the last decade. Let's make his last years truly golden.
