Teens Matter Too -YEP College tour fundraiser

Tax deductible
A vital part of the YEP program is to take the high school students in our program on college tours to show them that college is a viable option for them too.

The Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) needs your help to send 20 high school teens in our program on our spring break college tour April 1st – April 4th to Chicago visiting several college campuses.

Teens Matter Too:  13 of our 2018 high school graduates are on college campuses at Western State University, Ferris State, Kendall School of Arts, Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University.

Their Dreams matter too:  Keyvon dreams of opening his own dance studio, Andrea dreams of becoming a Neurosurgeon, Sevastian dreams of attaining a degree in Pre-med, and Apria dreams of becoming an Astrophysicist.

Teens are everywhere fighting to live and dream.  The YEP program creates a place that builds character, helps teens find their voice and lets them know they’re leaders now.

As the YEP Director, I need your support to continue the work of transforming teens from the inside out.  Here is Danyell’s perspective of the importance of college tours.  “The importance of college tours is to educate and empower students to strive for greatness.  Before this trip, I never even thought about going to college.  I had convinced myself that I wouldn’t need it.  But going to WKU (Western Kentucky University), changed that immensely for me.  I loved seeing the university life.  It really inspired me.  As we drove through downtown Cincinnati, I felt a feeling of want, a longing feeling.  I wanted to walk past rustic old buildings on my way to college every day, a scorching coffee burning my hand as I struggle to carry my books and supplies.  I wanted to be a Bulldog.  I wanted that sense of family.   I wanted to be a Jazzier.  I wanted to feel at home, safe and comfortable.”

Because of YEP's college tour last year, Danyell now wants to become a teacher.  Research shows that regardless of gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, youth who take education trips and college tours have 59% better grades, 95% higher graduation rates from high school, 63% higher college graduation rates and greater income 12% higher annually.

The risk is too great to not invest in the lives of the youth.  Please support our Teens Matter Too YEP College tour fundraiser by making a donation and spreading our campaign with your friends.
