TeenFlight. Helping Teens Learn How To Make Their Dreams Take Flight. Literally.
TeenFlight - Campbell River is a program that teaches teens about engineering, electronics, mechanics and manuafacturing in Aerospace...by having them build an actual airplane! This program is designed to help kids with a desire to learn and explore the world of aerospace, a ever growing industry in British Columbia and Canada. It is a stepping stone to helping kids get a leg up in post secondary education plans, by giving them some real "hands-on" experience with tangible results that they can show and be proud of
With the assistance of SeaLand Aviation and community donations, a handful of teens embarked of the build of a Vans RV-12 twin seat airplane. The long term goal is to complete the build, have the plane certified for flight and sell the plane, with the money earned going to the purchase of another. To get to the final stage of the build, however, we need your help in order to purchase an industry certified engine (CDN$35,000) and put the downpayment on the next kit (CDN$30,000), in order to start the next build, while waiting for the first plane to sell. The goal is to have the engine in, the plane finished and certified for flight by July 2016. We are almost there!
In an age where it is harder and harder to get into good schools, keep teens occupied and engaged outside of the school and learn skills that can help them toward a lifetime of success, TeenFlight stands out. It is well known that the Canadian (and International) aerospace industry is looking at a shortage of skilled workers in the the next 10 to 20 years. This program is specifically designed to help both build interest in that industry and create kids with skills that they can immediately apply to further education and personal certifications in the future. All at ZERO cost to them. This is a community driven project and we want you to be part of our community.
