Ted's Move To Independence

For those reading for the first time, here is some background.
My name is Ted Galanos. I was adopted at birth (born December 21, 1973) in Houston, Texas and raised in a small community Northwest of the city called Magnolia. I was quite a sickly baby and was thought by doctors not to survive past 2 or 3 years old. I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa or RP at about 5 when I started kindergarten. My vision deteriorated slowly and was gone by 27 or 28 years of age. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, majoring in Computer Information Systems or CIS. Fortunately, I was able to graduate college a year and a half before I went totally blind. Unfortunately though, due to my disabilities and health insurance mandates, I was unable to be gainfully employed. I did and still do, however, volunteer my skills wherever possible.

Though I'm not diabetic, I share similar conditions like poor circulation, peripheral sensory neuropathy in the hands and feet and wounds that are slow to heal. As a result, I was/am prone to chronic infection like staff and strep. Thus, I have lost most of my fingers and a couple of toes.  I have used a manual wheelchair for many years now.
On August 4, 2012, I had a freak accident transferring from the restroom to my chair where my left foot got trapped between the front caster and rear wheel as I was turning to sit. The femoral-patella ligament in my knee partially tore and 5 days later, tore completely. for the next 5 months I bounced from hospital to Long Term Acute Care,,  to Skilled Nursing Facility,, to nursing home waiting for the orthopedic surgeon to perform knee-reconstruction. In early January, he did, but it failed and became badly infected. The doctor refused to try again citing my high risk for infection and that a second failure could be fatal. Since I could no longer transfer independently, I needed 24 hour care availability, so I had to move into a  nursing home. I have been a resident of Woodridge Nursing & Rehabilitation for six years.
I am in need of an accessible lift van for transportation.
Those that have already contributed to my campaign, I thank you.
