Ted's last chance to beat cancer

Hello, and thank you for looking at our fundraising page. I'm Megan Mackney and I'm hoping to get enough money to fund my husband's last chance at beating cancer. Ted and I have been together for almost 15 years, married for 11 and are each other's best friend, lover, soul mate and business partner. Between us we have four great children, Med, Tommy, Caitlin and Dan, who are being so supportive and helping us in many ways.
We feel so lucky to have found each other in our 40's and desperately want to continue what we do together...but Ted's cancer appears to have other ideas. Please read Teddy's story below and if you can donate even just the price of a coffee it would be amazing...we want to continue our life together and continue to make a difference...

Ted Mackney, 58, has been bravely fighting Hodgkin Lymphoma cancer since diagnosis in December 2015. Unusually for this cancer, which is one of the most curable cancers, four different types of chemotherapy
including a trial drug have not been successful, and the cancer has now spread to his bone marrow.
Without treatment with a drug called Nivolumab his cancer will be incurable, but for some people Nivolumab   can and does cure or reduce the cancer even if nothing else has worked.
Ted is a talented musician and actor, and with his wife Megan (me!) works in care homes providing music therapy workshops for senior citizens and those suffering from dementia, which is a very important part of helping people to live well.
24198010_1506467923.5604_funddescriptionMusic is an amazing tool particularly for dementia affected people, providing reminiscence therapy, memory improvement, physical benefits and other health benefits that are only now being appreciated.
He wants to continue doing this rewarding work for as long as he can.
Ted and Megan are also a country and western duo, bringing C&W live music to care homes, pubs, clubs...anywhere that will have us! Ted has a very Johnny Cash like voice and loves to perform...he hasn't been able to do much over the past months and misses it  desperately.
24198010_1506468044.6695_funddescription Unfortunately Nivolumab is NOT provided by the NHS currently...unless you have a different type of cancer...and is £98,000 per year. We want to give Ted the best chance of continuing to play and sing, so we are asking if people can help us raise enough money for at least 5 cycles...we'll know then if the drug is benefiting him. If we can raise a year's worth that would be incredible. Two years worth would be out of this world.
Ted is well loved by many people and is a special person...kind, caring and loving, people respond to him immediately. All the kids love him and he is Grandpa to a special little 3 year old called Sophia Mae...our first grandchild.
He wants to stay playing and helping to improve other people's lives for as long as he can. And I am not ready to say goodbye to the love of my life, so if you donate after reading this...thank you from the bottom of both our hearts.

Hello everyone
Thank you all so much for continuing to donate...we have enough for the first five nivolumab doses now and with donations from other sources have enough for at least another one!
Ted has completed 4 'cycles' of the gentle chemo he was started on and it seems to be helping..he has stabilised well and is mostly much better than he was in September...he even played his guitar onstage with our son's band on Sunday! Just the one song..the one his son and Beck Lombardi who is the singer in the band wrote for him...but it was truly wonderful to see him up there. The oncologist is very pleased...he has a scan this week so we'll know how close he is to going on the nivolumab. They are now saying the the stem cell transplant he will need has become more of a possibility than it was which is terrific! However we still need your generosity to get all the treatment he needs..so please donate a few bob if you can!
The chorus of the song is:
Don't give up,
Keep your head high,
You're living,
In starlight...

Hi folks
Although we haven't had any donations to the site today we have had £520 arrive in cheques...so the total is now £4525!
If you would prefer to pay by cheque please email me on m.mackney@btinternet.com and I can give you address details...or if you prefer bacs we can do that as well.
All monies will go straight to a special savings account that we have set up to supplement the go fund me account...as we know some people are leary of putting credit cards into Internet sites although this site is very safe!

Hello Everyone
Almost £4000...wow!
Please keep sharing...we are doing our best to promote our go fund me but we need your help to get the word out.
We have people donating money from the bike MOT'S they do this month, one of Ted's son' s friends is shaving her head to raise money, I'm hoping to 'busk' with my community choir, nurses are holding a coffee morning, There's a raffle...lots of ideas about raising money for Ted.
Thank you all so much...Ted''s very touched.
He starts a conventional chemo on Monday while we raise the money for Nivolumab...just to try and hold the cancer until we can afford to pay for the doses he needs...we have almost one and a half...we are aiming for 4 to start with.
