On March 26,  at approximately 10 p.m., this house at 2910 21st St. blew up.  The explosion was enormous and caused massive damage to nearby structures, including blowing out windows across the street and sending shrapnel flying for many blocks around.

Sadly, our good friend and neighbor Dr. Rodica Gelca was killed.  She was a delightful and kind person and I will miss my short talks with her as she walked past my house and petted my cat.

The goal of this GoFundMe campaign is to raise $5000 to help with any expenses that her husband, Dr. Razvan Gelca, might incur due to this tragedy.  He was also injured.

Please keep them and our entire community in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you.

The cycle of life is once again in evidence in Tech Terrace. Rodica loved gardens and gardening and she loved the bluebonnets that grew along my curb. We would talk about them as she passed by on her way home from campus.

I have changed this campaign's photo, and included others, to reflect the coming of Spring to our neighborhood and the hope that it embodies.

We are all slowing coming to terms with what has happened and most importantly, Razvan is beginning to grasp how much we all love and care about him.

A memorial to honor Rodica's life was held Tuesday. It was touching and emotional. The photo montage of her life was clear evidence that she and Razvan had great love for each other and that they had made each moment count.

It is hard to imagine it has been just over a week since her passing. As I begin my gardening I am reminded over and over how much I looked forward to our chats as she passed by.

As I suspected, given the chaos of that awful night, I have learned some additional information about the heroic rescue of Dr. Fleming and his wife last Tuesday.

In addition to Heath, another young man named Jax assisted in extracting the couple from the burning house and in fact both assisted with tending to other victims as well.

Several other neighborhood individuals were also involved with tending to the injured.

I have added a photo of the site of the explosion as viewed from the alleyway. It is extraordinary how complete the devastation is.

I have noticed an acrid smell in the air for the first time, an odd reminder of what has occurred. It is a beautiful day and still I am missing Rodica and feeling her absence more than ever.

Please continue to keep our community and the victims of this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
