Team Spencer

Spencer Powell is 16 years old and was born with Congenital Heart Disease. He is one of 125 babies born every day with a heart defect. He has defied the odds against him. The doctors weren't even sure he'd make it a week let alone 16 years now. At 17 hours old he had his first open heart surgery. Then again one week later a second one. He spent his first 3 months of his life in ICU. And despite the rough start that was the beginning of the most spirited, spunky, passionate, caring kid around. He's inspired other kids, and adults, to keep fighting every day for each second of your life is precious and why not live it to the fullest and have as much fun doing it. In 2012 at age 12 he had his third open heart surgery. That surgery helped keep him in good health and standings up until just over a year ago. His numbers started dropping, more pressure was put on his heart due to water weight, the doctor visits got closer together. And now it's not just doctor visits. For now he has to stay in the hospital to wait for a transplant in order for them to make sure that his heart can keep up with the rest of his organs, and that nothing happens or damages those. Just by looking at Spencer and watching him laugh and joke around and just have fun you wouldn't know he was sick. In his doctors words "his heart isn't keeping up with his spirit." Which is so true, not many people let alone teens have to deal with what he does. And he does it with a smile and a positive attitude. He now says, "this is just the start of something new". And it is. Our whole life style has changed. Spencer and Dawn staying in the hospital. And the rest of us driving back and forth as much as possible. I'm asking Team Spencer and others to come together and support my family. My parents have missed work and will continue to miss days as time progresses with him. They are struggling emotionally and the last thing I want is for them to struggle financially because of missed work due to this hospital stay. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.
