This is our nephew, Mason Hall. He's unable to speak, walk, or see very well. Mason has the best laugh, loves to swing, go for walks, swim, and play catch. He brings us so much joy & here to prove anything is possible!

Mason was born October 27, 2010...4 pounds 11 ounces & an identical twin to Brandon Hall. He was just 9 days old when he was diagnosed with meningitis. He was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for 3 weeks, which included...IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, multiple spinal taps & MRI's. Scans showed what they thought were blood clots on his brain, but no signs of infection. He was released to go home.

After being home for 17 days, Mason started having problems breathing, was very lethargic & not eating well. He was taken back to the Emergency Room, and another spinal tap showed the meningitis had recurred. He was admitted to the PICU & antibiotics were started again. The meningitis had caused abscesses throughout his brain affecting his speech, vision & multiple development delays. After no improvement in his condition, the abscesses were drained. An external shunt was placed to control the pressure in his brain. He remained in the PICU for 3 months to administer antibiotics, blood transfusions and weekly MRI's. Once the meningitis had been treated his shunt was internalized to keep the spinal fluid draining properly.

Since being released in March 2011, he has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Cortical Vision Impairment, Global Developmental Delays, Hydrocephalus & Self Injurious Behaviors. He has had 8 shunt revisions (brain surgeries) & a second shunt added. Castings, Botox, selective dorsal rhizotomy & a tethered spinal cord release have all been done to help improve his tone and pain in his legs.

Alex, Mike's brother, works full time while his wife Kelly stays at home to raise the twins. With Mason's condition and Brandon's vision problems (Severe Nystagmus), Kelly is unable to work.  They are so dedicated and continuously looking for new ways/operations to help the condition be more comfortable for Mason. The money raised will give them a boost towards purchasing a much needed Wheelchair Accessible van, and a one level, ranch-style Wheelchair Accessible home.
