Important Update:

Hello everyone! The support for Maddie and family has been truly amazing and rapid. The family received news just now that the insurance company has reversed their decision to cover Maddie's hospitalization costs in Texas. This was unexpected, but is ultimately great news.

The family has asked Team Maddie to look into how we can refund donations that have already been made. We are in the process of doing that now, and appreciate your patience.

We are all amazed and appreciative of the concern for Maddie and the generosity of family, friends, and strangers. Once we have a better sense of what the family may need or how we can generally continue to raise awareness about and support for rhabdomyosarcoma research and patients we will provide another update.

With sincerest thanks,
Team Maddie

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In January of this year, Maddie was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma.  This was of course devastating for Maddie; her parents, Steve and Ann; her sisters, Grace and Lucy; their extended family; and their many, many friends.  Without a moment of hesitation, Maddie began to fight.  Since then, she has endured months of chemotherapy, radiation, and extensive supportive care, tests, and scans.  Throughout all of it, she has continued to excel at school and participate in the many activities she loves including gymnastics, soccer, and skiing.  Most impressively, she always has a smile on her face.

Unfortunately, Maddie's cancer has progressed through her treatments and additional available treatment options are limited.  She recently met the criteria to be treated in a clinical at Texas Children's Hospital and will head south within the week to begin treatment.  Beyond all the McCoys are already dealing with, there are substantial hospitalization costs that will result from Maddie's treatment.   Unfortunately, these costs will not be covered through insurance.

No child and family should have to go through something like this, and they should certainly not have to worry about the cost of fighting.  Team Maddie will do all that we can to lessen the burden on Maddie and her family, and we hope that you will join the team.

Please consider supporting Maddie in her fight against rhabdomyosarcoma.
