Hello Team Gwen. It is with sadness that I share that Gwen's care has been shifted to in-home hospice. She is sleeping, and her pain is being well managed. The family has requested no visitors at this time.

You're giving money to the amazing and fabulous Gwen Edwards, who has been fighting breast cancer since her diagnosis in 2011.

What you won't read on her blog is that recently, Gwen was released from a trial for a drug (PARP Inhibitor BMN 673) that has been quite effective for her since she started it.
After being denied compassionate use by the pharmaceutical company, she is facing limited treatment options. Her oncologist has suggested another similar drug that performs the same function as the previous one. (Lynparza. Generically - Olaparib.) This similar drug has been FDA approved for ovarian cancer patients but is still pending approval for breast cancer patients, therefore her insurance won't cover the cost of it.
Ready for it? Out of pocket cost is $12,000.

And this is just the drug. This price doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of daily expenses when you can't work because you're fighting cancer.
