Alyssa Renee Holmes was born on December 27th, 2016. At birth she had 4 masses in her abdomen and smaller masses under her skin. Alyssa spent the first few weeks in the nicu. After countless labs, biopsies, multiple imagings and painful procedures, she was diagnosed with intermediate risk, stage 4 neuroblastoma.
On January 17th, at just 3 weeks old she began her four rounds of chemotherapy. She has needed blood transfusions, has been sick, lost weight, stopped eating but she always bounces back. Her tiny body has multiple scars from the painful procedures, biopsies and surgeries but after 4 rounds of chemo the biopsies of the remaining masses gave us hope and showed that Alyssa was winning and what neuroblastoma was left was maturing (becoming benign).
On June 26th we took Alyssa into the hospital to have her Hickman line taken out. We were excited to take her swimming, give her a real bath, go camping, take her to the beach and not hide her from the world anymore. While going under anesthesia Alyssa started to have a seizure. This prompted a Head CT and MRI that confirmed a fear that we had not yet had time to process the possibility of happening as we were just starting to reach the light at the end of our very dark, scary and sometimes lonely tunnel. She relapsed before even completing her first battle. The MRI confirmed 4 aggressive new tumors in her brain. More imaging also revealed that the original tumor on her adrenal gland is active again, there is a spot on her spine and multiple spots on her liver. We are shattered at the battle Alyssa has ahead of her. Now they are doing many more tests and consulting with specialist around the country.
They have discussed surgeries, travels and trials. We are preparing ourselves to travel for treatment. As we wait for the answers as to what comes next we hold onto the love and support that is being given to us. Alyssa's strength and beauty is astonishing. Most of her first 6 months of life have been spent in the hospital, hooked up to wires, monitors and medications; tucked away from the world to protect her. Alyssa shows us her fight everyday. She is fighting for a life she has barely begun with smiles, kisses and an infectious personality that you can't help but fall in love with. We know that there is nothing our baby girl can't beat. With Alyssa's strength, the support and prayers of family, friends and people we have yet to meet, Alyssa will beat this. She has a long road ahead of her but our hope and support are unwavering. Every heartbreaking moment, every second of fear, every devastating blow is no match for the joy she creates in our lives. We are blessed.
With our love and gratitude

I have dreamt about this post since my very first post on her page. A post we never doubted would happen but some days it felt like a lifetime of treatments and torture away. Now that we are here, I am at a loss for words. When moments felt so dark and scary, the love and support that everyone offered without hesitation got us through and helped us stand strong. Never have we lost sight of Alyssa winning this battle and never have we forgotten how blessed we are, how much love and good is in the world and how powerful prayer, a kind word, a good thought and an ear to bend truly is. Alyssa has been declared NED (no evidence of disease) meaning that they can not find neuroblastoma anywhere in her body. We are over the moon right now, dancing and singing, walking with more bounce in our step and more happiness in our smiles, laughs, hugs and kisses. We are so blessed and could not wait to post this so that you all can celebrate with us. Right now we are finishing this round of immunotherapy and then we can go home. From here, it will be scheduled screening scans. No more chemo, no more immunotherapy.
Thank you so much for all of your love and support, true blessings in it's best form.
With our love

Oh goodness, where to begin. First I want to apologize for not doing an update sooner. We hope that you are all following Alyssa's facebook page. We have been posting updates and pictures there. Second, thank you all for your love and support. We feel it every second of everyday. Since Alyssa's relapse there has been so much happening. Our 3 options were to do nothing and allow her to be a healthy baby for as long as possible, aggressive chemo to hopefully give her more time or to New York for a trial treatment. We chose New York. Due to insurance we were stuck in limbo for awhile. Finally, after the help of so many we got the ok to go to New York. In October we started her treatment. Being in New York and staying at the Ronald McDonald house is such a blessing. Everyone there has been so amazing, helpful and supportive. Alyssa now has a port in her chest and head for treatment administration. The ports create a lump but these are so much better than her having lines everywhere. The tumors in her abdomen are still active and the treatment that she is going through is for her brain and spine. Our option for her abdomen now is surgery. There is a constant question of what to do next. Alyssa does not fit into a specific treatment protocol. It is whatever we can do to save her life. Right now that option is surgery. Monday January 29th 2018 Alyssa is scheduled for surgery in New York. Fear does not begin to describe what we are feeling. This will be a very long extensive surgery. The goal is to remove all of the monster living in her abdomen. That includes removing an adrenal gland, some is in her liver, wrapped around and near her kidney and a large tumor in her pelvis. We are meeting with the surgery team on Friday, January 26th 2018 and will have every detail and new images to review. After the surgery she will be able to continue her immunotherapy trial for her brain and spine. When we started this fight over one year ago, we knew it would be hard, we knew there would be tears but there was nothing that could have prepared us for what has happened. Traveling across the country for treatment and surgeries, relapses, insurance battles. Doing whatever possible to give Alyssa the fighting chance she so deserves. She deserves a long happy life and we are not backing down. With the donations made to her go fund me page you help make this fight possible. The support, prayers and love that so many are giving is keeping us standing strong. The load we carry feels so heavy but our blessings ease our pain, fear and anxiety. There will never be enough ways to say thank you.

I truly don't know where to begin. I am rarely at a loss for words. We are heartbroken. Alyssa's MRI shows neuroblastoma in her brain. We have no words, just tears. We do not know much of what is to come. There will be many more tests, full CT scan today, MIBG next week, another MRI on Monday. We are being told of Drs in Seattle and New York, trials, travels and surgeries. Nothing is confirmed right now. We are asking for prayers and for any families that have been through this nightmare we are desperately seeking reassurance. We know our baby is strong and has the support and love of so many. Our world is shattered at the moment and we are holding onto the love and support we receive. We are taking time to be knocked down, cry, get mad and then we stand back up stronger for what is to come next.
With love,

Alyssa has now finished 4 rounds of chemo. We have had good days and bad days but her strength and our support has never faltered. Her imaging showed that the tumors on her adrenal glands have shrunk 90% (amazing!) But the one on her bladder only 30% (the hope was at least 50%) we still do not know about the tumor in her liver but hope to soon. We are now consulting with other Dr's across the nation to determine our next step. Today Alyssa is having a bone marrow biopsy to see if this ugly cancer is in her bone marrow. Please pray that the results are negative. We have a Facebook set up for Alyssa at 'team alyssa renee' if you would like to follow her fight there as well. If you make a donation please message through go fund me or Alyssa''s Facebook with your address. We would love to send you a bracelet or window sticker. Every time I sign off on my updates, thank you feels too small for all the love and support everyone is giving us. It empowers us and gives hopet. Thank you so very much, with love #teamalyssarenee

Psalm 121 A song of ascents. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
