Typically a post containing the name Fred Bachmann and Xiomara Bachmann is filled with exciting training sessions, soccer tournament wins/highlights and wrestling championships. This one is a bit different. Their daughter Xiolani, who we all know as vivacious and energetic, a real hustler out on the soccer field and an all around sweet-natured kid is battling an illness that we still do not have a diagnosis for. It is with a heavy heart that we write this message about Lani. This young lady is in the fight of her life right now. Lani has not been able to walk or talk for over a week and is currently at Dupont Hospital. Fred and Xiomara were informed on Sunday that their 8 year old girl was being admitted to the intensive care unit and Lani would have to immediately start an invasive procedure call plasmapheresis in order to stabilize her condition. The entire Bachmann community-family, friends, colleagues and sports community is devastated by this news. Fred and Xiomara will be out of work for an extended period of time and their income is going to be drastically reduced as a result. Unfortunately, the long term recovery for Lani will take months and her parents will have to miss a lot of work to support her recovery once the doctors stabilize her condition. We have decided to start a Go Fund Me page for Lani. Fred and Xiomara have no idea as they would certainly not allow it to be done. Anyone who knows them knows they are not the type to ask for anything. We have all watched Fred train wrestlers and soccer players over the years and never ask for a penny nor recognition. I know, from private conversations, he truly looks at these kids and parents as extended family members. He truly loves watching all kids succeed-not just his own. Xiomara has opened up her home to many families throughout the year and has willingly picked up the duties at home when Fred was spending a great deal of time helping others. Lani, Fred and Xiomara are in need of all of our help. Many loved ones are offering support in many ways and the last week has been incredible to see in terms of how good people can be when a family is brought to their knees. The financial cushion that we are trying to raise will allow Fred and Xiomara to focus on Lani without the stress of worrying about finances.
Lani is an incredible soccer player who has excelled on the field as well as in the classroom. Her smile is infectious and her good natured spirit has touched many. She will beat this illness and come back stronger than ever!!!
