On 28th of March 2014 the Nagashima's world came crashing down when Bella was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). She was only 4 years old. Bella completed 2.3 years of chemo at the Royal Children's Hospital.
Midday on the 23rd of March this year her mum Vanie, posted how ecstatic they were that Bella was 9 month post treatment and a happy, healthy 7 year old. Unfortunately, that review was given prior to the blood test results coming back. Later that same afernoon, they were called back to the Royal Children's Hospital and received the devastating news that Bella had relapsed So the fight begins again, to save their precious baby.
Vanie has taken 12 months leave without pay to care for Bella, as this time, Bella will go to have a Bone Marrow Transplant in July. This has placed the family under significant financial pressure.
When Bella undergoes her Bone Marrow Transplant she will be kept in isolation for a minimum of 2 months but it could be much much longer depending on her recovery.
Bella and her little sister Olivia are extremely close. They miss each other desperately when they are apart. They do everything together. The girls spend lots of time playing, creating and imagining fun things to do. They are very sensitive to each other's feelings and sadness and are constantly trying to cheer each other up during their visits.
When Bella is allowed to go home she will be very susceptible to infection and illness due to graft versus host disease following transplant.
We would like to create a safe play space for these beautiful little girls to spend time together as Bella continues to recover post transplant. We would also like to lighten the load and assist Vanie and her husband Tosh to keep afloat financially.
