If The Arc of Indiana Foundation can raise $300,000 by November 15, 2015 we will receive a gift of $4.2 million to help people with disabilities train for jobs! We need your help!
The Need
· According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is a staggering 82%.
· Of the 18% of people with disabilities with jobs, one-third work part time.
· Without the opportunity to work full time, many are forced to seek government assistance to survive.
· This is a population that wants to work but has little access to training.
The Plan
· The Arc of Indiana Foundation is building the first Training Institute and Teaching Hotel in the country.
· Housed inside a Courtyard by Marriott, we will train people with all disabilities in a variety of hospitality, food services and healthcare positions.
· Students will include people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, returning veterans with traumatic brain injuries and people who are deaf and hard of hearing or blind.
· The Training Institute and Teaching Hotel will give people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a postsecondary education program.
The Impact
The institute will:
· Train up to 200 students a year for jobs in hospitality, food services and healthcare
· Create an additional 200 employment opportunities with an outreach program for human resources directors across other industries
· Save the State of Indiana over $5 million in public assistance over 4.5 years for every 200 people who are employed and results can be replicated in other states.
· Reduce the unemployment rate for people with disabilities
Conclusion
This project provides -
· A postsecondary education opportunity for individuals who may not have a high school diploma
· A true collaboration between private and public sectors
· A path towards self-sufficiency and a living wage
The Training Institute and Teaching Hotel is a perfect collaboration between public and private sectors.
This project will increase employment for people with disabilities while also increasing independence and improving their quality of life. In addition, it will have a positive economic impact on the economy.
