Creatve Arts Education in South Africa

Thank you for taking part in this journey with me! Travel thus far has had a profound on impact me, especially as a woman. In a society where a lack of contact with diversity hurts our ability to empathize, I can attest that it has been the greatest favor for myself to see the world as best I can, and to meet all walks of life. Solo travel has ignited an earnest love for people and culture along with a sober sense of self awareness.

Moving forward, I am keen to contribute action of meaning before entering into a professional development/apprenticeship  program (Praxis) in May 2019. In that regard, a "vacation" holds little appeal to me. I am addicted to learning, adventure, history and great literature. My background in theatre has highlighted the importance of broadening my perspective and approaching life with empathy and compassion.

Travel with a purpose, cultural submersion, an eye fixated on social justice and human rights- I want to be apart of the solution, apart of a community working to have a sustainable impact. With direction, I will pursue this through writing, theatre, creative arts, and hands on work in the field. All are avenues I look to develop throughout my career as my ability and sphere of influence grow. The following internship, an ideal prerequisite, will deepen my involvement with those of like mind intent to provoke reform.

If I Could... has tailored an internship opportunity with Lalela Project , a non profit site recommendation in line with my overseas aspirations.  Over the course of two months, If I Could..., Development Works Changemakers (parent company), and Lalela will guide my training through hands on work in the field. From lesson facilitation, to administrative support, to outreach and advocacy work, we will be fostering South Africa’s capacity for arts education and youth empowerment.

Duration/Time Frame: 24 January 2019 - 28 March 2019

Through compiling earned income, savings, and cherished contributions from generous donors, I have accumulated sufficient funds to secure my internship placement through to mid March. Further donations are greatly appreciated and will be put toward food and housing.
