New Route Development Initiative

Thanks for checking this out!
My name is Aric Fishman and I'm looking for support to help me continue my passion in developing the Northwestern Ontario climbing scene and sharing it with others!
I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario; it's one of those places that most have heard of, but not many people know just how truly incredible it is for outdoor adventure. I've been a dedicated and well traveled climber for about 15 years now, and when I moved to Tbay from Southern Ontario in 2007, I really had no idea just how much world-class climbing and breathtaking landscapes there was here to enjoy! This place has it all..

After spending a number of years climbing a vast number of already established routes, I began putting my eyes towards all the un-established walls and lines that were just begging to be climbed. There truly is no way to describe to someone who's never been here just how much untapped trad and sport climbing potential there is. With all the unlimited opportunity for sick new lines, it's also mind-boggling that there's so few people working on route development here. Maybe because it takes a grueling amount of work, dedication, tons of experience to establish quality lines, technical systems knowledge, etc..it's definitely not for everyone, but sure is rewarding!
This is where I come in, but also need your support. Due to the nature of the rock here, there is quite a bit that goes in to developing a safe route for others to enjoy. Cutting trails, cleaning loose rock from potential routes, scrubbing lichen and dirt off the hand/footholds, establishing safe anchor points, etc. I Love It!! Not only is it extremely time consuming, but it is also very costly. As an example, just to establish a single 2 pitch sport climb on the walls me and my partners have been focusing on costs about $160.
A single bolt+hanger costs $6, and a rappel station (2 bolts + 2 hangers w/rappel rings) costs approx $18. To establish a 1 pitch sport climb requires approx 10-12 bolts+hangers per pitch coupled with safe rappel anchors to get back down.
To establish a traditional climb, it often needs the rappel anchors set up, as well as a ton of sitting in a harness cleaning loose rock and scrubbing holds.
Some examples of awesome new trad and sport lines I've already established with good friends that you can enjoy include:
Everything Goes Brown - 5.10b - 3 pitches
Praying Mantis - 5.10b - 2 pitches
Birds of Prey - 5.11c - 2 pitches
Cold Feat - 5.10c - 2 pitches
Jammin n Cammin - 5.11c - 2 pitches
Lost Keys - 5.9+ - 2 pitches
Flight of the Frenchies - 5.11c - 1 or 2 pitch
Lengends of Animikee - 5.11b - 1 pitch
The Portal - 5.12c/d - 1 pitch
I Lichen It - 5.9 - 1 pitch
Cheeseburger - 5.5 - 1 pitch
Snake Bite - 5.9 - 1 pitch
The Milkman - 5.11c/d - 1 pitch
Back Home - 5.10a - 1 pitch
Spiritually Invested - 5.10d - 1 pitch
Dog and Bone - 5.11b - 1 pitch
Inspiration Station - 5.12a - 2 pitches watch the video

I absolutely love all that goes in to the discovering, cleaning, establishing, climbing, and then the sharing of new climbs to everyone! With the help of friends, I have already established a bunch of single pitch and mutli-pitch climbs in Thunder Bay and I see no end in sight.
I'm a rock and ice climbing guide in Northwestern Ontario (check out 'Outdoor Skills And Thrills '), and with that I seem to dedicate most of my extra cash towards getting people out climbing! I recently made a large purchase to get all new gear for my clients to use, so unfortunately I don't have much extra funds for a while to afford all the additional equipment I need to continue developing lines on a consistent basis.
Your contribution will really help me:
-Buy an industrial cordless hammer drill so I don't have to keep borrowing from others all the time
-Get a few fresh rock drill bits
-Purchase bolts+hangers as needed
-Purchase rappel anchors as needed
-Get some more specialized gear for the task at hand (static ropes, big wall hammer, pitons, hooks, beaks, etc)
-Get some better rock cleaning equipment (heavy duty brushes, bigger crowbars/prybars, leather gloves, etc)
-Buy more trail building tools and materials
-Continue building up the psych and climbing scene in Northwestern Ontario with epic new routes!

I think that having a good spread of grades from easy to hard is important for an area for many reasons. Up to now, using my own funds I have focused on putting up climbs 5.10 and up - but with the help of this funding I will be able to focus more on seeking and putting up easier grades at the crags too. Who doesn't enjoy a fun moderate!? Everyone benefits :)

If you're a climber who enjoys lines that have been cleaned and established by route developers, please consider contributing whatever you can and help us continue putting up sweet lines! If you're not a climber, but an outdoor adventure enthusiast who supports initiatives like this that are aimed at opening up new areas for like-minded people, please also consider lending a helping hand.

Your support and contribution to help me in the development of safe epic new climbs in Northwestern Ontario is truly appreciated, and I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the results!
Please consider sharing this with your friends and loved ones cause every dollar helps!
Thanks you so much for checking this out and happy adventuring everyone :)

Sincerely,
Aric Fishman
