My name is Elena Yeakley. I have decided to share my Story because the past few years, I have suffered from various health illnesses.
I was born in Russia and I was given up by my birth parents. I lived in a orphanage from the day I was born till age seven. I was adopted by an American family at age 7 years old. One of my characteristics is that, I'm strong willed and will stop at nothing to see myself and others succeed. I have been able to be independent all my life.
Since I turned 22 years of age. I have started to become ill. I never realized why I was so sick all the time until one day, I came accross a Doctor that told me, that I am a Thalidomide baby. I had no idea what that meant at the time or what my future would look like. I just knew that my future was going to have it's challenges
I was recently experiencing some major health issues that caused me to have surgery ASAP. March 9, 2015 was the day I went to get my procedure done. As of today (April, 29, 2015), I am going through my hardest recovery of my life. I didn't anticipate complictions along the road but it's been a humbling experience for me. I now understand the seriousness of continuing hardships, along with my long lasting adventures of not giving up on my dreams.
I am needing support financially to help me cover for my medical expenses. I have paid over 5,000.00 out of pocket just for one procedure. This is just the beginning of paying off thousands of dollars out of pocket. I now owe a lot more because during my complications, I was once again admitted to the hospital for 7 days. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the night. However, here I am alive and staying strong.
April 17, 2015, I was again under a second surgery. I have paused my life, until I can get back on my feet again. My life before going under this surgery was successful. I'm a College student at Brigham Young University, majoring Neurological Disorders. I graduate in April 2017. I travel locally to speak with youths, schools, public and churches. My aspirations is to become a Motivational Speaker all around the world. I am hopeful that this is just the beginning of my ADVENTURES to motivate and encourage individuals to fullfill there dreams, as I have and will continue to pursue. Despite the bumps along the road.
currently, I had another surgery done March 24, 2017 and as of right now, I am scheduled to see another surgeon in another state to correct the problem. No intelligent doctor that I have come across yet, to figure out why I keep receiving infections that seem to never go away. My financial life has been insurmountable due to always being in pain. I lost my amazing job, my incredible car and my independence... ever since the first surgeon made a mistake, that has caused me great amount of grief, anxiety and my sense of hope that I will get better!
Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts. I'm praying for a miracle for the past two years now.
