Taos World Championship Dream

Donation protected
My name is Tao (Theo) Joos from Albury NSW, I am 32 years old. At the age of 22, I was a passenger in a car accident that left me a paraplegic. Over the last 11 years I have tried my hand at a few sports - tennis, powerlifting, clay target shooting - just to name a few but this year I have focused on and specifically trained in a sport called “Para Ice Hockey” which I have fallen in love with.

I have been selected in the inaugural Australian Para Ice Hockey team. The team will compete in Europe (exact European location is to be confirmed by the International Paralympic Committee in the coming days) this November at the International Paralympic Committee’s World Para Ice Hockey World Championships (Pool C).

Here is a link to show you exactly what “Para Ice Hockey” is from this year’s 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic games. The Australian Paralympic Committee’s aim is to have my team work towards qualifying for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic games.

To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for something in my entire life but also extremely nervous at the same time. I have never left our beautiful Australian shores, and to do so wearing the green and gold Australian uniform will make this the trip of a lifetime. In preparation for the team’s departure I just received my first passport in the mail and that was super exciting!

I’ve decided to reach out through social media and via a Go Fund Me page. This trip to the World Championships in Finland is self-funded, in total my player team fees are $3900 which covers airfares, accommodation, tournament rego and uniform.

I’m hoping to raise $5000 which would go a long way towards the purchase of my own custom made para ice hockey sled and sticks (roughly $1200AUD). I currently train and play in a rental sled. The remaining money will then to go towards the team fees ($3900AUD) and uniform purchase ($290) associated with the trip to Finland for me to represent Team Australia.

Any donations big or small would be extremely appreciated, I would also be extremely appreciative if you could take the time to share this page amongst your friends and contacts via social media.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and a big massive thank you for any donations and shares, looking forward to being able to share some amazing stories and pics from “The World Para Ice Hockey World Championship” in Europe, dressed in the Green and Gold.

Yours in hockey,

Tao
PS, if you make a donation and would like a small thank you gift from the World Championships in November leave your postal address in the note and I’ll send one out once I’m home
