Tammie's Stroke Recovery

$22,497 of $25,000 goal

Created August 19, 2018
On Thursday, August 16, 2018, Tammie Davis suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital. While in ICU, they discovered that she has a blood clot on her brain. She is currently undergoing additional testing, and she will be evaluated and treated accordingly. She will need rehabilitation therapy and will also need assistance while she recovers.

Tammie is a long-time familiar face at the Ormond Chick-fil-A, having been there over 17 years, and is known affectionately to many as "Miss Tammie".  She works hard to support herself.  Not only does she work at the Ormond location, but she also works part-time at the International Speedway store.

In addition to her medical bills which are quickly adding up, we also discovered that she has been having car trouble. She relies heavily on this car to get her to and from both jobs. We would like to help with the expenses to repair her car so she will have reliable transportation once she is cleared to work again.

Let's join together to show her love and support from a community who knows her and loves her. We would love to raise enough funds to help assist and off-set the expenses Tammie is incurring while in the hospital and missing time from work. Please also join us in praying for her recovery.

Tammie is thankful to be home. She was released last Tuesday and is recovering at her own place. Thank you to all who prayed for her, called or visited her in the hospital, and donated to her campaign. She has a long road ahead. She has a follow up appointment scheduled with the cardiologist and I know she would appreciate our prayers!

This Thursday will mark three weeks since Tammie was transported to Halifax. She is eager to go home, but she is still waiting for the approval from her insurance company for the Life Vest (see previous update). Due to the weakened condition of her heart, her doctor will not let her go until she has the Life Vest. Please pray that they will get this resolved so she can go home!

Her sister Portia flew in from California a week ago Sunday, so she has been back and forth between the hospital and Tammie's place. She has been a great help to Tammie, both at the hospital and at home. Her joyful heart and sweet spirit have been a blessing to all who meet her.

Tammie has greatly enjoyed the cards and visits from her co-workers and guests of Chick-fil-A. It has meant so much to her. Thank you again to all who have donated to and shared this GoFundMe page. We'll have a better idea of her continued needs once she goes home (and the bills start rolling in) and when a determination is made on the condition of her car. I will post an update once we know more. Thank you all for your encouragement to Tammie! She is able to read your comments here and is greatly blessed by them.

We visited with Tammie again tonight. Many of you have asked how she is doing. I know yall are eager to hear word about this dear lady who is a special friend to so many.

She looked good tonight. She sounds like herself again, and that is encouraging. She really wants to go home! Those hopes were squashed today, though, when the hospital informed her that the insurance company denied their request for medical equipment that is a necessity in order to be released. Her doctor has ordered a Life Vest, which is a wearable defibrillator. This device would monitor her heart, and if her heart were to stop, it would shock her heart back into rhythm. This is, quite literally, a lifesaving device. The hospital is advocating on her behalf to try to get this approved by her insurance company. In addition, there are still a few other goals that they need to see met before they release her.

Another need is a new place to live. She is looking into affordable housing on a first floor. Her current apartment is on the second floor with no elevator access. If anyone has insight into places that might be an option for her please send me a private message and I will pass the information along.

Due to the snag with the insurance company, she will be in the hospital at least through the weekend. Her sister Monica and her friend Jan were able to be here this week, and her other sister will arrive Sunday. Due to her condition, the hospital does not want her to be alone once she is released. Thankfully she has had company, including visits from so many of you. She loves talking about the visitors she's had and how much it means to her. She is humbled by the response also to this GoFundMe page, and she is so grateful for everyone's generosity. You all have made an impact on her. I think this GoFundMe page is a good indicator of what an impact she has had on our community! What a blessing to see the love showered on this sweet lady. She is so appreciative and thankful for your thoughts and prayers.

Hello everyone! First of all, Tammie would like to say thank you to all who have donated and wished her well. She has been able to read your comments on this page and they bring her so much joy. She is also grateful for the visitors and all the ways love has been shown to her.

Tomorrow marks a week since she was transported to the hospital. She started out in ICU but has since been moved to a regular room. They did testing on Monday and are looking for some goals to be met before they discuss releasing her, though she is hopeful they will let her go home Monday. They have had her up and moving around and are pleased with her mobility. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you again for your love and support.
