Soy Alejandra Gómez y escribo esta historia para ayudar a mi gran amiga Carmen Corales, de 26 años y por Pedro, su esposo de 32 años, quien ha sido recientemente diagnosticado con un Mieloma Múltiple de Alto Riesgo, un tipo de cáncer que afecta a las células de la Médula Ósea, estas células afectadas forman parte del sistema inmunológico o de defensa del organismo. Carmen y Pedro necesitan ayuda para costear los primeros ciclos de quimioterapia que le han prescrito sus doctores.
Esta es la historia de lo que ha pasado con Pedro, contada por Carmen:
"Pedro nació en Argentina y nos conocimos ahí en el año 2011 porque yo estudiaba en Buenos Aires, pero se vino a vivir a Venezuela para estar conmigo en el año 2014.
En el año 2014 nos casamos y empezamos a hacer nuestra vida juntos en Venezuela, a pesar de que muchas personas le recomendaban no venirse a este país por todos los problemas socioeconómicos que presenta, él siempre tuvo claro que no le importaba estar aquí porque quería estar conmigo y yo tenía que terminar mi carrera de odontología.
El 25 de marzo del 2018 Pedro fue ingresado a Terapia Intensiva del Hospital del Seguro Social de Puerto La Cruz (en Venezuela) porque convulsionó mientras manejaba, y los médicos encontraron que tenía un shock séptico. Hasta este momento no tenemos claro qué causó esta gran infección. Estuvo internado en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos por 17 días, porque la infección fue muy difícil de curar y ningún antibiótico parecía hacerle efecto. Por muchos días sólo parecía empeorar, pero a pesar de esto, Pedro siempre mantenía una actitud positiva y de fuerza admirable.
Pedro logró superar la infección, pero desde que fue dado de alta hasta la primera semana de septiembre de este año hemos estado tratando de encontrar qué estaba mal con él, ya que nunca logró mejorar por completo.
Poco a poco perdía la habilidad de mover sus extremidades y de caminar, y su brazo derecho y sus piernas presentan dolores muy intensos. Fuimos a muchísimos especialistas (neurólogos, neurocirujanos, reumatólogos, traumatólogos, intensivistas, internistas, hematólogos, fisiatras, fisioterapeutas) y nadie nos podía dar un diagnóstico para lo que le pasaba.
No era un problema de los médicos (ya que contamos con un equipo maravilloso), pero todos los estudios que se le hacían eran inconcluyentes o salían relativamente bien. A pesar de esto, Pedro cada día empeoraba, sabíamos que algo no estaba bien.
Actualmente necesita ayuda para levantarse, sentarse y moverse. Tiene fracturas en la cabeza del femur y parte de sus huesos del húmero están necrosados por las lesiones producidas por el cáncer. En marzo salió caminando del hospital y actualmente las lesiones en sus huesos son tan graves y delicadas que tiene que estar en silla de ruedas y procurar moverse lo menos posible para evitar más fracturas en sus ya muy frágiles huesos.

El diagnóstico fue muy complicado, ya que las lesiones en sus huesos no se veían en los estudios radiológicos hace 2 meses, y la mayoría de los exámenes que se le hacían no eran concluyentes. Durante este tiempo agotamos nuestros ahorros entre la hospitalización y el proceso de diagnóstico; y ahora, que sabemos lo que tiene y podemos hacer algo para salvar su vida, no podemos costear los medicamentos necesarios para comenzar su quimioterapia.
Estos medicamentos suelen ser dados por la Seguridad Social, pero debido a la crisis humanitaria en Venezuela no cuentan con ninguno de ellos, y por su condición tan delicada no puede enfrentar un viaje a Argentina (de más de 8 horas en avión) para hacerse ahí los tratamientos, además de que en Argentina ya no tenemos un lugar donde vivir porque Pedro dejó todo lo que tenía para venirse conmigo. Tenemos que tratar de encontrar los medicamentos para la quimioterapia fuera del país, pero son medicamentos de muy alto costo y es por eso que necesitamos de su ayuda.

Pedro was recently diagnosed with high risk multiple myeloma a type of cancer that affects the cells of the bone marrow, these affected cells are part of the of the body’s immune system. Pedro and Carmen need help to pay the first cycles of chemotherapy prescribed by doctors.
This is the story about what happened to Pedro, told by Carmen, his wife:
"Pedro was born in Argentina and we met there in 2011 because I was studying in Buenos Aires I left the country and in 2014 Pedro came to live in Venezuela to be with me.
In 2014 we got married and started to make our lives together in Venezuela, despite the fact that many people recommended not to come to this country because of all the socioeconomic problems involves; he was always clear that he did not care to be here because he wanted to be with me and I had to finish my dental career.
On March 25, 2018, Pedro was admitted to intensive care at the Social Security Hospital in Puerto La Cruz (Venezuela) because he convulsed while driving, and doctors found out that he had septic shock. He stayed in the intensive care unit for 17 days, because the infection was very difficult to cure and no antibiotic seemed to be effective.
For many days he just seemed to be worse, but despite this, Pedro always maintained a positive attitude and admirable strength. Until now we are not clear what caused this great infection.
Pedro managed to overcome the infection, but since he was discharged until the first week of September of this year we have been trying to find what was wrong with him, since he never managed to improve completely. Little by little Pedrolost the ability to move his limbs and walk, and right now his right arm and legs have very intense pains.
We went to a lot of specialists (neurologists, neurosurgeons, rheumatologists, orthopedists, intensivists, internists, hematologists, physiatrists, physiotherapists) and nobody could give us a diagnosis for what was happening.
The doctors were not the problem (since we have a wonderful team), but all the studies that were done were inconclusive or went relatively well. In spite of this, Pedro every day worsened, we knew that something was not right.
Currently he needs help to get up, sit down and move around. He has fractures in the head of the femur and part of his bones of the humerus are necrotic due to injuries produced by the cancer. In March he walked out of the hospital and now the injuries to his bones are so severe and delicate that he has to be in a wheelchair and try to move as little as possible to avoid further fractures in his already very fragile bones.

The diagnosis was very complicated, since the lesions in his bones were not seen in radiological studies 2 months ago, and most of the examinations that were done were inconclusive. During this time we spend our savings on hospitalization and diagnostic process; and now that we know what he has and what we need to do to save his life, we cannot afford the necessary medicines to start his chemotherapy.
These medicines are usually given by Social Security, but due to the severe humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, the public health system suffers an immense shortage of medicines, and even more those needed for cancer patients.
Because of the delicate condition in which Pedro is, he cannot make a trip to Argentina (more than 8 hours by plane) so he could get the treatments he needs, also, in Argentina we no longer have a place to live because Pedro left everything he had to come with me.
We have to try to find the medicines for chemotherapy outside the country, but they are very expensive medicines and that is why we need your help.
