My name is Lesley Asare and I am a British Ghanaian Artist, Facilitator and Youth Mentor. My work explores identity, personal histories and the experiences of Black Women. I am passionate about holding spaces for women and young people, and using the expressive arts as a tool for self-awareness and healing.

WHY I NEED YOUR HELP:

In April 2019 I was awarded with a Tamalpa ArtCorps Scholarship to embark on the Level 2 training in Movement based Expressive Arts Therapy. This training course begins at the Tamalpa Institute in San Francisco in July 2019 and is the next step to becoming a qualified Tamalpa Practitioner and Registered Somatic Movement Therapist.

Though my tuition fees for the Level 2 training course will be covered by the ArtCorps Scholarship, I am in desperate need of support to raise £9500 between now and 1st July 2019 to cover the expenses for this training course that begins in July 2019 is held in California, France, Marseille, Kent, Scotland and Germany.

WHO WILL THIS TRAINING SERVE?

Being the first Black Woman to complete the Tamalpa Level 1 training in the UK in March 2018 filled me with a strong desire to hold spaces for the African and Caribbean Community in the UK and Ghana, to self-reflect and heal through the expressive arts. Though dance and movement is ingrained within both African and Caribbean cultures, their use as a reflective and healing tool is uncommon but I would like to change this.

There are rarely safe and open spaces in my field that are tailored for WOC and I want to create such spaces for women to self reflect and heal through art. I believe completing this course is the first step to achieving this.

YOUR SUPPORT WILL ENABLE ME TO:

- Travel to each of the training locations to complete my L2 training in Embodied Leadership

HAVING COMPLETED THE TRAINING I WILL:

- Create spaces for the African and Caribbean Community in the UK and in Ghana to self-reflect and heal through the expressive arts.

- Create spaces for students between the ages of 12 - 25 within secondary schools and universities in the UK to develop their emotional intelligence, wellbeing, self- awareness and confidence through the expressive arts

Thank you for landing on this page.

Your support means the world to me and every contribution helps to make my dream a reality.

I am grateful for you.
